    I'm here now!

    Hello all!

Some of you may remember my thread last month regarding my intention to move from the UK to Laos.....Well I'm here now!!!! And have been for just over two weeks!

During my last thread I seemed to get a lot of negative posts saying "You'll have no chance of getting a job" Or "Your wife will leave you" Etc... (You get the idea)

Anyhow I'm please to say that within two weeks of being here I have a full time job with Green Discovery as a salesman which is admittedly very different from my intentions but a great start! I have a motorbike, opened a bank account and am happy.

Just a short thread to say that it certainly is possible and it shows that despite all the negative comments I received I went for it and so far so good! So if anyone else is reading this and thinking of going for it then do it!!!

Now commence the bitching??? Or perhaps not? ??????

    Thanks

I am sure the negative posts were from individuals who have either experienced what they wrote or know someone who has and just wanted to watch out for you. Living in Laos, like Thailand, is something that can turn into a great experience, or one that is not so great. Hoping you have a great one.

We would be interested in hearing how you feel about the move after a year or so. Perspectives change and one learns much more about their living environment by then and it is always informative to hear what people have to say.

    Good Luck

Yup I'm with Dill and I aint just talking about my own good wishes at you mate ,, there were plenty of people wishing you well a while back.

I still hold you in high esteem , not for what you have done in Laos so far ,, but for the fact of the concern you showed for you Mum .

BTW how is she taking to it ? she settled down ok ?

All the best ,, careful of the bear traps
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

    Well done supernovadw.

A number of people told me 27 years ago I would not last 6 months working in Asia and I'm still here kicking butt.

Most of the negative comments hinged on your ideas for gainful employment.
By the way, I hope that you encourage Green Discovery to improve their product offerings. I refuse to use them after a number of unpleasant experiences.

A salesman for a niche travel agency peddling "eco" tourism to fatuous tourists from the West and the Antipodes?

Hope it lasts but I shouldn't think it will be sufficient to establish any meaningful residence. Still, if it's a bit of adventure you're after then all power to you.

There is always a job teaching English available in BKK if things go awry, or selling " green " energy in Cambodia if you fancy. I rather think there may be a vacancy.

Thanks mate! Yep was nice to meet you, nice to get a day off work because of it being woman's day also hey ha ha.

The job with green discovery is going well! Had a works party on Thursday evening which was really nice, it was good to have a chat with everyone as being in an office it's not exactly a place to chat.

The wage is around $1000 USD Per month which whilst this isn't anything special what so ever it does comfertably pay for everything at the moment such as rent, food, bills etc... Plus enough left over for some beers or save a small amount so yeh all in all I'm really happy and just so glad I got a job so quickly!

Been to look at some land and spending the day tomorrow riding around looking so all being well I should be out of rented accommodation soon which will be good.

I'm just excited to see how everything goes now! Really enjoying it so far!

I think it's great that you found a new life in an interesting country. Finding a decent job that pays the bills as a ex-pat is something I would love to do (I am a 50 year old professional in the casino business in the USA but am a wanna-be Ex-Pat somewhere in SE Asia).

This is my first post on TD after being a lurker for the last year!
