The kidnappings were political, to barter trades with 9,000+ people being held by the Israelis without charge or trial.
You must differentiate between the "Jihadists" that kidnapped Pearle, Berg, and Johnson, and the political kidnappings of Hamas and Hezbollah. These political kidnapping have gone on for years, and they often trade.............

Israel is allowed to hold people without trial or charges, and, to drop bombs if a suspected 'terrorists' is in a building. Nevermind the civilian death toll.
Hezbollah captures a few soldiers? Let's turn the Middle East into a glass parking lot.
I only wished that the oil now polluting Lebanon's beaches had gone south instead.
