| 3 Pagoda Pass | Dad Arrested for Kissing His Daughter This is really sick. Brazil has gone way too far. Live wirelessly. Print wirelessly. Text SizeAAA (Sept. 7) - Italian diplomats are trying to secure the release of an Italian businessman who was arrested in Brazil after he was seen kissing his 8-year-old daughter in public. The 48-year-old man was arrested Sept. 2 and could face eight to 15 years in prison if convicted under a tough new law designed to crack down on child abuse, BBC News reported Monday. Skip over this content An Italian tourist was arrested under a tough new child abuse law after witnesses reported that he kissed his daughter in a pool near the beach in Fortaleza, Brazil. The man was reported to police by an elderly Brazilian couple who said they saw him kissing the girl on the mouth in a swimming pool near the beach in the coastal city of Fortaleza, in northeastern Brazil. The man's Brazilian wife says the whole thing is just a misunderstanding and that the witnesses jumped to the wrong conclusion after seeing a white foreigner with a darker-skinned child. Northeastern Brazil has been plagued for years by pedophiles, many of them foreign, traveling to the area for sex with youngsters. The new law was enacted in an attempt to stamp out child prostitution. The man has remained under arrest although his daughter said nothing improper happened, the Daily Telegraph reported. It quoted the Italian newspaper La Repubblica as reporting that a lawyer for the Italian consulate said that arrest was a case of overzealousness on the part of local police. The consulate was collecting statements testifying to the good character of the businessman. The man's name was not released but the Telegraph said he is from Guidonia, near Rome. He and his wife and family reportedly have been spending their summers in Fortaleza for several years. Italian Father Arrested in Brazil for Kissing Daughter |

| Hansum Man! | The guy is now in hospital, stressed out . . . and still waiting to be charged . . . Damn, I am also very cuddly and kissy with my kids, once this becomes a crime only fathers who couldn't give a toss about their children will be deemed 'good parents'. Pathetic |

| It's all quite ridiculous really. But then most knee-jerk laws are. If they want to address the issue of pedophile sex tourists then why not address the social ills and poverty that are the root cause. These people go there for sex with children because they know children are avaliable for sex, not on the off-chance of finding one. Parking the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff helps nobody - certainly not this guy in question.

| I think the couple who saw that were only trying to do the right thing and acting in the interests of the child. Yes its extreme but what about the child that is being abused and people turn a blind eye? (Ok, a kiss IS extreme as i said. Then again ive always been a bit creeped out by kisses on the lips between parents and kiddies. I think lip kisses should be reserved for intimacy between couples. Maybe that makes me weird.) Also this case may just make people more cautious about reporting next time, which may be the time something IS actually happening that is wrong. Anyway, I think the problem isnt with the reporting so much as the way it was handled. If they just interviewed the child separately with a qualified child psychologist (not the police!) and the mother and father given a separate interview, and all seemed in order, then it would have gotten cleared up pretty quick i think. No? |

never mind 'qualified child psychologist' or seperate interviews. Once it had been determined it was his daughter, that should have been the end of it. What's the world coming to when you're not allowed to kiss your kids. | |

| No doubt in here in the UK some health and saftey // sandal wearing wispy beard type twat is putting together a plan whereby parents will no longer be able to help their young children in the bathroom , incase the danger of any impure thoughts were to enter their heads , so a special government sanitised , sterilised team will be on standby to help . No doubt cost to broke Britain £8bn ,,,,,,nothing suprises us here

| I was in a restaurant a few years ago and there was a foreign guy there with his luk kreung kids having a meal. It was pretty obvious to me at least that they looked luk kreung and were his kids. Not so the restaurant proprietor though. he came in, took one look at them, marched over and told them (the kids) to get out. He'd assumed they were touts/flower-sellers or something. |

| On a walkabout | You must keep your wits about yourself these days and no matter where you are. My 12 year old daugther (whom I have just enrolled in a new school) has a few 13 and 14 year old girlfriends and they come over to stay most weekends. When we go out for dinner I have noticed some suspicious stares being focused in my direction as well as I have had to correct the way I conduct myself at home when they are around. A good intention can land you in a lot of hot water and if you are not careful. |

| I think it reflects how confused everyone is about childhood. One the one hand, you have tabloid mobs screaming for paedophiles to be hung from the lampposts at the drop of a hat and on the other, Tesco's sell pole-dancing kits for pre-teens and you can't move in England (don't know about Italy) for girls under 10 dressed up like cheap whores. Puberty happens at a younger and younger age but we try to maintain some fantasy about the purity of childhood, whilst filling it wall-to-wall with cheap commercialism and allowing the fashion industry to hyper-sexualise girls who are barely adolescent. It's all fucked up. |
