Why can't you guys seperate criticisms of what your Govt. is doing from an attack on all Americans? Why is it "anti-American" to point out that they're trampling over the rights of others? The so-called and self-professed 'Leaders of the Free World' are held to a higher standard, as they should be. Dismissing valid criticism out-of-hand as "anti-Amercian" is so much hollow rethoric.

I have no idea what patriotism means. I suspect it has something to do with being proud of your country. I see nothing wrong with that an laugh my ass off at the TD twats who think it's fashionable or noble or the sign of an independent thinker to summarily dismiss their entire government as idiots. I don't know maybe yours is. Mine isn't. And they won't be in January, regardless of who is elected. Does that make me patriotic? As for this blind loyalty to the government you keep pissing about -- at any given time in the past, oh, 50 years, about half of the US population has despised the current government. Which is why I'm amused to listen to you idiots moan on about American patriotism. I suspect you'd prefer the self-loathing, fuck-that-place attitude so prevalent among your countrymen. I doubt you'll find that too often, though you guys are the American experts. I could be wrong. Let's do a little experiment on patriotism. You count all the American flags posted in Teak Door. And I'll count all the UK flags. OK? I suspect I could limit my count to the taffy flag wavers. What is this nonsense about the Army? Really? How does that figure into anything? | So the irony is that Tex never stayed longer than a few weeks a year in his own country, and yet claim to know more about the US than anyone else, and others have lived there but "can't" understand what American values are ? is that right Tex ? just because you were born there, give you absolute knowledge about everything America stands for ? I think you are just having sweet childhood memories, which is a different thing. |

| Yeah, working on the USS Okinawa, you really don't run into many Americans only 20,000 or so. A perfect example of you experts jumping to conclusions. Trying to compare sirloin and a Sloppy Joe. |

| yeah a bunch of soldiers would give you a balanced view of American life, I'm not anti-American, i am anti-idiot. you are given a chance to educate us Tex in why we are wrong but you choose to call people names and behave like a drama queen. Do you honestly believe that that the treatment of internees at Guantanamo Bay is something an American can be proud of?

| Texpat Spend night on the Okinawa in 90 awaiting transfer in the gulf shortly before the firworks started. Sh*t hole of a ship, I got stuck on a top bunk next to an uninsulated hot water pipe in a space with little to no AC. Woke up thinking I was bathing in my own sweat. Later in the year, on another ship, we took abroad about 3000 Iraq pows, we did our best to treat them fairly and any thing that resembled abuse or mistreatment was not tolerated at all. I doubt the US military has changed that much since I was in. In a place as high profile as gitmo, I have little doubt the military is extremely careful in its handling of prisoners. But if individuals see the world through sh*t colored glasses, like our anti-american friends here seem to do, it is not surprising they see sh*t and are so filled with hatred for good intended individuals who happen to have different political views of the world. |

Properly due or merited: just deserts. 4. Law Valid within the law; lawful: just claims. 5. Suitable or proper in nature; fitting: a just touch of solemnity. 6. | ^^ Referring to the island, not the ship. Ever seen a ship with 40K people on it? I agree with your post. ^ 'bout all of 'em, I reckon. (does that sound redneck enough for you?) |

This repeated refusal to deal with or confront these criticisms and simply shouting them down as "anti-American" is a cop-out and, frankly, only serves to show that you cannot rationally justify nor argue to the contrary any of the points. It's a distinct pattern amongst many of the American posters on here that they are completely disingenuous when it comes to this type of thing. Valid points are ignored, the people making them attacked, and the posts shifted repeatedly. Most of the other nations represented here make a national sport of crticising their governments. Going by the example on here Americans simply canno |
