Some of Texpat's valuable contributions to this thread. Texpat your posts kind of represent American mentality.

Well a good thread and many things to contribute and discuss but, seeing the thread being turned into a drivel of shit by the master Idiot (Texpat) and his soul enlightening posts mentioned above, I don't see that happening. No! not in this thread and not in issues.

Surely CMN jerked off over this double century before he went to bed.

Even if Khadr did kill Sgt. Speer, he did so as a soldier, not a terrorist. There’s little doubt that Ahmed Khadr was training his sons to be terrorists — the sort of people who blow up buses and restaurants, or who wear civilian clothing as they lie in wait to detonate explosives under vehicle convoys. But what Omar Khadr did on June 27, 2002 wasn’t terrorism. It was participation in a military engagement — a fact that can’t be changed merely by slapping a label like “unlawful combatant” on him.

Moreover, it was a military engagement fought on American terms: After U.S. soldiers sealed off the village encampment housing Khadr’s cell, they prosecuted the siege with about 100 troops, some of them Special Forces, as well as Apache helicopters, F-18 Hornets and A-10 Warthogs. You can say that Khadr was fighting in an evil cause when he was captured, but you can’t say that he was preying on the defenseless.

Even if you don’t buy anything I’ve written above, Khadr’s treatment still ranks as abominable. Let us assume that Omar Khadr actually threw the grenade that killed Sgt Christopher Speer; that he did so as a cold-blooded killer, not as a soldier; and that his status as a child combatant is irrelevant — in short, that Omar Khadr is a murderer. Well then, how do we treat murderers in Western countries? Answer: We put them in jail. We don’t beat them; or move them from cell to cell every three hours; or terrify them with threats of pedophilic rape; or deny them appropriate medical care — all punishments that Khadr has endured — a litany of abuse so traumatic that, according to one piteous detail among many, he took to falling asleep at Guantanamo desperately hugging a Mickey Mouse book brought to him as a gift. In the space of six years incarceration, Khadr has endured more brutality than any ordinary jailbird would endure in 60.
Let me get this straight he attends a terrorist camp and receives terrorist training. Just because they weren't in the immediate act of commiting an obvious terrorist attack, they aren't terrorists. Howabout when they shot down in cold blood a couple of Afghani translators who were negotiating with them? That's a dirty low down sneaky act (while wearing civilian clothing I might add ).

I like how the author sounds so "fair" in the first two paragraphs and in the third paragraph he pours on all sorts of outrageous unfounded accusations and sentimantal bs.

Pu-leez. Who is the audience this drivel is attempting to reach? Let me guess the Mickey Mouse book was brought by his lawyer and the story was conveyed by his lawyer, right? Right? I'm reminded of Leslie Abramson, the lawyer who defended the Menendez brothers at their first trial. She would dote over them, picking lint off their sweaters and straightening out wrinkles in their shirts. Like a loving mother, she explained how they had been abused. The trial ended with a hung jury. She almost pulled it off.

What was the point? If one has read more than one or two threads on this forum, it was obvious that on this topic CHN, Ant and Butterfly would take the anti-American position and Texpat would take the pro-American position.

Why go through all the trouble?

Amazing how pigeonholed so many posters are and how tightly they follow their chosen doctrine. As there any critical thinkers here?

Can any posters see both sides of an issue and appreciate the nuances?

I don’t see it, especially the leftist posters here seem to be overly influenced by their party’s propaganda and are unable to think outside the party line.

Ok, we know CHN, Ant and Butterfly hate GW with a passion and oppose each and every one of his policies, so what? How many times do they feel the need to express the same hatred?

KW

“as English philosopher Edmund Burke once said, ‘The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.’

Fair enough, you can hardly claim I do nothing. I am currently working in a socialist country helping the country understand and use market-based economic policies and business practices, I also write on issues of importance to me and yes, I often criticize US government policies.

I love politics and can discuss it for hours.

But what use is it to repeat over and over the same one-sided arguments? No analysis, only propaganda. I can hardly stomach watching news channels in the US, which usually consists of two individuals, each given about a whole minute, on both sides of an argument advocate for there position using selected information and data.

That Ok, but what about some objective analysis that goes along with it?

I am amazed at the close-mindedness of intelligent people when it comes to political issues these days?

I don’t remember it being so in days past.

Political discussions these days are fueled by hate and emotions. Bush bashing and rejecting out of hand any liberal position seems to be all most are capable of.

Waste of time arguing with these kinds of people.

How can you argue with people who are hate-filled and who ignore all available evidence and still believe socialism and force is a better system of government instead of democracy and freedom?

How can you argue with some bigoted people who claim all Muslims can not be trusted and should be treated with contempt?

nice work, you are great. blow that trumpet...

My reply was in reply to your repeated posts that nobody need worry about this and it is a waste of time to argue about it....
