Hmmm, Quran 65:4.

Here's the verse:

Quote:
And (as for) those of your women who have despaired of menstruation, if you have a doubt, their prescribed time shall be three months, and of those too who have not had their courses; and (as for) the pregnant women, their prescribed time is that they lay down their burden; and whoever is careful of (his duty to) Allah He will make easy for him his affair.
Now can you tell me what's wrong with the verse?

Barbaric punishment I agree.
But the OP did not ask if I condoned it.
He asked what religion

Yes it does. But, any hadith in conflict with the Quran is already declared (by the scholars) null.

Frequently Asked Questions about Stoning | The Global Campaign to Stop Killing and Stoning Women!

Is stoning still practiced? In which countries?

Yes. Stoning to death has been introduced as a legal form of punishment for the ‘adultery of married persons’ (zina al-Mohsena) in Afghanistan, Iran, Nigeria (about one-third among 36 states), Pakistan, Sudan, and the United Arab Emirates. While the penalty has never been carried out by the state in either Pakistan or Iraq, incidents of stoning have been carried out by communities, seemingly encouraged by the existence of the punishment in law.

Stoning is a highly debated issue among Muslim religious clerics, and there is no consensus within the global Muslim community over the validity of the practice as “Islamic Law.” Although there is no mention of stoning in the Quran, many Muslim clerics cite instances in the Hadith, the acts and sayings of the Prophet Muhammad, when discussing the legitimacy of the practice of stoning in Islam. In the Hadiths (the collected traditions of the Prophet), the Prophet Muhammad is said to have prescribed stoning explicitly for Jews who had been found guilty of adultery. Although the Quran (24:2 Surah al-Nur) only stipulates 100 lashes for adultery, the Prophet Muhammad reportedly had a number of men and women stoned in his time, hence giving evidence to those who argue for the codifying of this punishment as Shariah, or Islamic Law. After the Prophet Muhammad’s death, the first generation of Muslim legal scholars included adultery as one of the six major offences in Islamic law for which the penalty is fixed by God and Quran (Hudud.) However, because the justification for stoning relies completely on the Hadith and not on the Quran, many scholars question its label as Hudud, the very definition of such being “punishments mandated by God.” Such inconsistencies between the Hadith and Quran have been a source of confusion and remain controversial to this day.

"Although the Quran (24:2 Surah al-Nur) only stipulates 100 lashes for adultery, the Prophet Muhammad reportedly had a number of men and women stoned in his time"

The Koran does not mention stoning so it is not in conflict, is one argument that might be used to justify the punishment

Outdated link mate. It is not in Pakistan anymore. You go to jail for life now. I also read it -online newspaper- that Iran has abolished this law too.

this whole focus on methodology seems to be missing the crux of the argument, imo.

Ok it doesn't but it does say this:

Quote:
"The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication flog each of them".(Quran 24:2)

So anyone not following the above mentioned verse ain't a Muslim. Right?

Mach,

What about these statements?

Iranian girls can get married as young as nine with parental consent and 13 without consent.

For a rape charge under Sharia Law, four witnesses are needed.

Question:

When people were stoning women to death, buried in sand, did the stone throwers ever say or shout: "Allah, akbar! Allah akbar!"

I have no idea about Iranian ways. Sorry.

Requirement of four witnesses in rape case is absurd. I am all against it.

Yes, the nutters do. I once, unfortunately, watched stoning to death video. The guys were shouting "Allah Akbar". My and nephew's response was "If Allah approves of this then fuck your Allah too".

It was in practice in Pakistan (really don't know about Iran). Thanks to the mofo General Zia ul Haq who introduced it. Thanks to General Musharraf for abolishing it.
