| i worked for brown and root / halliburton offshore for 17 yrs. around the middle/far east and we had women 'engineers' appearing towards the end of my workspan and it did 'enlighten' the jobsite. i firmly beleive that there are certain jobs that are not suitable for women due to our biological differences. |

| They kept her in a shipping container. She borrowed a mobile from one of her captors and phoned her Dad in the US, who then phoned his Congressman, who called the State Department, who finally flew out and got her out. She was medically examined and vaginal/anal rape was confirmed. In the interview with the Congressman I heard last night, the names and current locations of the alleged perps have remained unnamed by Justice, despite repeated inquiries. I imagine they had received an unpleasant phone call from the Actual President (and actual CEO of Haliburton, for that matter). From the OP link: "Legal experts say Jones' alleged assailants will likely never face a judge and jury, due to an enormous loophole that has effectively left contractors in Iraq beyond the reach of United States law." So, in other words, the US can be the World's Policeman and incarcerate whomever it wants, torture whomever it wants, but it can't prosecute American citizens on American government contracts breaking American law and committing crimes against other Americans! It's getting beyond belief.

| I don't believe her. When did this happen? I read the story twice and it never says. It's at least two years old. Something's fishy. She was drugged? Disappearing medical report? Where are the doctors? "Don't plan on working back in Iraq. There won't be a position here, and there won't be a position in Houston," Jones says she was told. Told by who? Take the gloves off girl. I could be wrong, but there seem to be a lot of holes in this story. Last edited by Texpat : 13-12-2007 at 02:40 AM. |

Prevent women from doing things or cover them up, because you cant expect men not to attack and rape. Quote:
But I think the rape is not in question; the question is, should the perpetrators be held responsible. Quote:
Because men dont do things like that? Or because you think that women lie about it, more than it happens? Quote:

The topic isn't whether she was raped or not. The topic is that no one has been charged with rape. She deserves her day in court too, but you have already judged her guilty of lying. Where is your presumption of innocence here. Are only men accused of rape, considered to have the presumption of innocence? | |

| Ah, that only counts if you've been charged in the first place. In this situation, even though the company admits there was an assault (and examination) so by definition the existence of perpetrators, it, the State Department and Justice refuse to comment, much less name or charge the alleged perpetrators everyone acknowledges to exist in the first place. It's absurd, there's clearly enough evidence for an investigation; it simply doesn't conform to a minimum standard of justice because innocence is not proven and the plaintiff never gets their day in court. |

| Shipping container Easily converted into small, relocatable living quarters. Frequently used by military and contractors where their presence is temporary. I worked out of one of these jobbers in Saudi for six months -- a double wide. ![]() Either way, lets hope the truth comes out in this case. Story said she was going on 20/20 soon. |
