Nicely sidestepped.

Armed guards to keep you in the container and prevent you leaving? A personal armed guard for the purpose on keeping you contained (pardon the pun)?

I think you're missing my point. The story has a lot of holes and if it were me, I'd make damn sure as many people as possible knew every detail of this alleged incident. Name the doctor. Name the bosses. Name the perps. Scream from the highest mountain. Somehow, that isn't being done. Granted she's a 22-year-old (I think) and may be scared and confused.

"Jones says she was held in the shipping container for at least 24 hours without food or water by KBR, which posted armed security guards outside her door, who would not let her leave."

Guards are always posted near living quarters because that's where bad guys can get the best bang for their riyal. She was drugged? and wanted to leave the compound? Yes, I can see where they wouldn't let her. She obviously had access to medical personnel -- who have also gone silent.

Her story, as written by the OP, just doesn't add up. Let's watch it.

This is not a personal attack on you, but often people who have never been in very dangerous places have no concept of how the rules change -- a lot of rules. First-time reporters, for example, have a great deal of trouble adjusting to not being able to go and do what they want, when they want.

If she had walked out of the compound in a huff and had her head blown off ... fuckin' Halliburton.

Not until she was rescued by the Embassy officials. Did you read the link?

Read the lawsuit here:

Jones, Et Al v. Halliburton Company et al Document 1 - :: Justia Docs

Still some holes, but claim sounds much more believable.

But it sure fires people up when they read in a story the poor girl was locked up in a shipping container, like an animal.

Evidence of that on this thread.

Some are fitted-out nicer than my house. Oak panneling, wall to wall berber carpeting. etc.

Many years ago they used to fit shipping containers they'd load into cargo airplanes to cary the Air Force generals around the world in -- when VIP planes weren't available. King size bed, lamps, video, stocked fridge ... all top notch stuff.

The story doesn't specify what kind of "shipping container" she was "caged" in.

Well it does say:

Quote:

And does it really matter? If her story is true and she was indeed held captive and raped is it somehow better if the shipping container she was held in was the 5-star luxary, super-deluxe version of shipping container accomodation!?

It's really all kinda beside the point and extranenous in my opinion. The focus should be on a young woman who may (or indeed may not have) been raped and deprived of her liberty - not the conditions of some container.

OR, It could read this way too.

Some of the guys had made a deal with a raghead and scored on a couple of quarts of Sadeky and invited this broad up to the room in the porta-kamp we were living in, had aircon, color TV and sterio so we were all set for a party.
Well this broad could not hold her juice very well, but you know how Sakeky is, anyway about 2 drinks and she is outta her threads and dancing on the table, we all get nekked and then she flips out and runs wild and they had to lock her in her own room to keep her inside the compound.
Fukin dolly was a mental case when she got a few drinks, Coarse the Sadek was a tad strong.

maybe something like that.

At the moment not convinced either way.

From the complaint (in a nutshell):

Aside from an incident with her original supervisor, whom she named, she has also named one of the assailants in the main assaults (Charles Boartz). The complaint also alleges that some of the men had previous convictions that were relevant to the safety of the complainant (which goes to the liability of the company).

The assaults she alleges to have taken place while she was quartered in the same area as the men. She claims to have been unconscious (possibly Rohypnol-induced) at the time of these assaults. She awoke with not insignificant injuries and subsequently found Boartz lying on a bed in her room. After the rape kit examination, she was quartered in the container (presumably for her own safety or feeling of safety). Certain things were said to her by company people (about her job future) and she subsequently persuaded a guard to let her make a telephone call.

The document is a complaint form only - it only contains the allegations, not the method by which they are to be proven. She can only identify one attacker visually and if the rape kit has disappeared and other evidentiary materials have not been collected, then it only leaves the words of those involved, the medical observations, the surrounding (uncontested) circumstances, and her demeanour and (perhaps) first complaint. However, it is only a civil case (balance of probilities). Even without the rape kit, the medical staff who examined her would be essential witnesses on her behalf. It may be that there will be information from some form of investigation as well, but that fact would not normally be disclosed in the complaint. (If any formal investigation had established the identity of other people involved, you would expect to see those people actually named. Something rather piss poor seems to have happened in that respect.)

Notwithstanding, I don't see 'big' holes - I see a supervisor and middle management level cover-up and reliance upon the special legal circumstances in respect of any possible criminal action. Despite the little material that is available, I'd back this one to be found in her favour at least in relation to the main assaults and some of the related complaints. I would have backed it to settle if it were not for the complaint regarding her earlier supervisor's conduct, but it may settle in any event - the company will be in 100% damage-control mode.

Damn if I know either, seems like there would be no war zones in anyplace that was populated by the religion of Peace and brotherly love.
