    Children of the Golden Triangle

I've just been reading a travellers blog at (sorry I can't post
links yet, I'll have to replace dots with asterisks)

    www*travelblog*org/Asia/Thailand/Chiang-Rai/blog-122338.html

She talks about an organisation called "Children of the Golden Triangle",
it appears to be some kind of Christian Charity where sponsors pay
$30/Month for the care of abandoned or orphaned hill tribe children.

From the blog it seems that the place is more like a labour camp run
for the benefit and profit of the organisers and volunteers. While none
of what she says is actually horrifying it is deeply disturbing.

I don't know anything about this organisation aside from a few things I
Googled this morning. Has anybody here heard about this group?
Is the negative view of them in the blog above justified or just a
    misunderstanding?

I've put this in the issues forum because I've noticed this kind of thing
in other countries. Not uniquely, but predominantly, among religious
charities. I've met a lot of decent, caring charity workers but I've also
met a lot who could only be described, charitably, as exploiters. Is this
    other peoples experience too?

My Mum starting donating to some hilltribe kid years ago.
She sent letters to the kid and regular money.
Every letter in reply was just a generic 'Thanks " and never answered one question that she asked.
This was a con and your group is probably the same.

Went through the site. The claims are inflammatory and inaccurate the accuasations of abduction and profiteering are over the top the folks spent one day there maybe a week or two in the north. The thing about this program that is so fucking despicable, is the intention to wipe out the culture of the people and force Christianity down their throats. Using hunger and desperation as tools to convert these people to some kind of "one, true religion" complete bullshit the guy running the place needs his head bashed in. the program is good one the motive behind it absolute evil in the name of "God"

The $30 a month and sales of handicrafts being some kind of profit making hustle? Do the math folks it ain't that big a money maker.

It will just about pay for the bibles that they are forcing upon those children..
The missionaries should crawl back to where they come from, there are other charity organizations doing the same job without expecting anything in return.

That was pretty much my take on it, I can't stand these pray-for-pay
guys. Not sure about the money tho', lots of charities get big grants
from governments and aid agencies and it can be pretty profitable.

But yeah, it's the patronising "your culture is evil, my god is bigger than
your god" stuff that really sticks in my craw. I'm sure these guys target
children because they're easier to brainwash.

Whatever happened to the good old pop the missionary in the pot and let's
    have a party tribes?
