Nice Job ! , Fred ....
Jalan Maliboro, Yogyakarta on a wet morning.
I like Pizza Hut. I liked in in the UK, in Malaysia and over here in Indonesia.
Pretty waitress.
Quick ad for Pizza hut. The quality here in Indonesia is bloody great. I've used four branches now and all have been perfect.
That two in Semarang and two in Yogya.
This lady speaks very good English and was very helpful, friendly, pleasant and efficient.
Simpang lima, Semarang.

Be happy dudes. It's a lot more fun than crying.
Most of the cops you see here don't have guns. Only the traffic cops seem to have pistols full time.
They only carry long weapons if they are on special duty.
There is almost always cops outside banks and, sometimes, ATMs but this one is a mystery. Nothing obvious nearby but there always a cop there.
Sunday morning is day off for many and people often like to go to the local alun alun (Town square) where there is usually either something going on or just because it's a nice place to relax.
Martial arts are quite popular here. They use the mosque in the background as a changing room.
There is always food to be had.
Local food and drinks are popular but there is some western stuff to be had as a rule.
I'll add some more pics of the mosque on KW's excellent thread.
Yes ,reading and looking . Keep going please.
Wow...they need a few of these around Bangkok!
Christ I'd devour some of those...do they just do chips, or have they got mushy peas and oven bottom muffins too?
*drooling*
The chips are pretty common but they call them french fries. We did run a burger bar for a while before we left Wonosobo, that had chip butties. They became very popular.
Thinking about setting up again in the new place. This is a small city that is much richer than the last town so i suspect it would do very well if we found the right place.
I have yet to see mush peas here but I'm going to make a batch for myself when I get a moment. My wife makes the best chips outside Yorkshire. I'm wondering if those wood fired ovens would make good Yorkshire puds. I suspect so.
The wood stoves are basically either a lump of concrete or a chink of stone in an "n" shape.
You stuff wood under and whatever you want to cook on top. A lot of poor families still use them in the villages bur we did try one to make some bread. Seriously nice.
The oven is just like any other but, instead of whatever to produce the heat, it simply has a hole in the bottom so you pop it on either a gas stove or a wood burner.
The wood burners are available to buy from the same people who make grave stones.
You can get a halfway decent mushy peas with fish n chips at D's bar in blokm
Every morning at silly o'clock, there is a wholesale market in many towns.
All the sellers buy their stock and wander around villages selling it.
Many use motorbikes like this one.
I'm a long way from Blok M so I'll have to make some.
The white blocks half way down the box is called tempe. It's fermented soya beans. They use it for all sorts over here. If you chop it into little squares, fry it and serve with sauce, it has the texture of tender beef. It usually costs about Rp2,000 per block.
Insects get a bit big in this neck of the woods.
Many poor people can't afford land so they farm where ever they can get away with it. Amazingly, they get away with it in strange places.
The 'road' you can see at the far end of the field is the runway at Solo airport, Central Java. I pointed the camera through the fence to get the shot.
Central Java is known for it's volcanoes. Loads of them. Wonosobo is a small town in the hills at about 1000m ASL. The road to Semarang starts at a town called Kertek where you turn left at the roundabout and climb up the hill.
You manage another 1000m ASL in about 5km as you reach Keldung pass. It is two things. It's between two volcanoes, Sindano and Sumbing, and it's ruddy cold up there.
If you were to go up to the top of the mountains, you would rise another 1000m.
Hmmmph my krakatoa volcano pic is better than that! And I eked out an entire thread on it!
^^^
I'm sodding skint you know. Can't afford fancy cameras when you are too lazy to work.
