Typical Indonesian Party - (wedding, funeral, birthday etc)

For some reason here people have parties take over the street, perhaps this is because their houses are too small, or perhaps the more cynical might suggest this is because it becomes a more ostentatious or visible affair.

Anyhow, a few doors down are obviously celebrating tonight...

    notice all the stacked chairs...

so i guess the tent thingy is like an outdoor extension for 24 or 48 hours or so.

yup. the more guests the better, a colleague of mine had 10,000 people turn up to her wedding (but her father was a politician. )

It is quite routine to invite the entire neighborhood, even if they have never met you!

Temporary flooring is being laid down. I think the wiring is also being put in. Notice the guy in the top right corner safely standing on the top rung of the ladder without safety harness ?

He is actually nailing this flooring down, which i found funny for a short set-up. But i guess it is safer.

Looks good KW, nothing quite like a knees up with the folks in the same street. Make sure that you go back later and take a few more pic's of them having some fun.

I did a couple of brief stints in Jakarta {much more time in outer Java & Sumatra}, I'd be curious to ask Willy...what district do you live in?

Don't you have an overwhelming urge to drive your car right through the middle of it? I know I would.

Yeah, it tis, adn it sorta isnt, people will come and go at no real set time, be given some food, sit in some chairs, chat, others will arrive others will leave, talking, ice tea drinking, phones, texting, kids running everywhere, usually people stay 30mins to an hour.

it's more pay a respects say hello sorta thing.

uh hah, same same as the urge to run over every single motorcylist i saw in jakarta, but i avoid that urge too.

at least this is not directly in my way to get in and out of my house, once one was and so i had to detour around. was less happy about that one.

In fact last month, someone had a wedding and invited the president, so half of Bintaro got aroudn the main road, noone with out an invitation was allowed within 2 kms of the place.... and this was a main road they blocked.

i just went and played golf.

Looks like a nice neighbourhood KW but it seems like these properties have very little front garden with the houses being positioned almost directly on the street.

Do these properties have a rear backyard or garden area?

It would be nice to see some pictures of the event!
