Train Trip : Jakarta to Jogya

Me n a mate decided to catch the train to Jogja. (aka Yogjakarta, central Java).

You can arrange tickets through any travel agent, 290,000 IDR (~$30 USD). We took the AC carriage, 1st class train. (you have to know the names, Argo Train or Trasaka Pagi are the best.)



It's an 8 hour trip, we took an 8.30am train.

The station is quite central and we hired a couple of porters to carry our 'supplies'. (sorry about the quality, was hung over and early)



Some local trains get quite crowded, the Train authority has done everything they can to stop them surfing, including goop and grease on the roof, spraying commuters with pains, and hanging concrete balls from above the tracks.

after 8 hours and 41 cans later we arrived in Jogya. The remains in the esky.





We stayed in the Yogyakarta Plaza hotel, about $70 per night.

local chicken, they dont use the growth hormones that you find in plenty of other countries.

very good point.

They didnt, pork, smelly cheese and beers through central Java.

They were great,

one Arab fellow politely asked us to keep it down at one point, cause his wife was sleeping. But we suspect he just wanted to complain full stop. no-one else minded.

in fact, one lady wanted a beer, jilbab and all, but her friends wouldnt let her.

All in good fun.

Most Indonesians are very tolerant and very friendly.

Will do, looking at the pictures now, I'm disappointed that I didnt take any of the city in the first hour. Dunno why. We were more focused on the beers and David Boon's record of 53 beers on a plane to London. Figured on a pro rata basis (ie our train trip was 1/3 the length) that we were on target to break his record.

local trains only, not the intercity ones.

I think it is a Jakarta and Bogor problem.

I think I've done one before, well worth a visit.

however, this trip involved drinking piss 20 hours of the day for a couple a days and not much else.

Over all the journey is comfortable

but there is too rush on the trains.

But if you get the first class seats in train then you can really enjoy the journey without noise and disturbance

Unless there are some idiots drinking beer and eating ham and chicken sandwiches on the train...

The out side view of the fields and the houses make us spell bind and it feels that we are in the arms of nature.

Stayed here with another couple after arriving late in the afternoon.Location was shit as it was 27 blocks from beach and 20 blocks from main Rd .



Car parking in lot opposite and expensive price we had so far found. Front desk staff were not very polite or helpful and after showing us some rooms that seemed clean and presentable, we booked two rooms. Mistake! Had to call staff to shut down aircon as it was blowing freezing air in both rooms and controls didn't work. It took 10 minutes to get hot water through to bathroom taps and even then, not very hot. One pillow each and though more were requested, nothing was forthcoming. Carpet was old and VERY musty. Room view was a blank wall 10 ft from our window.Room safe appeared to work ok but when we returned after evening out, safe door was open, though nothing was taken. 'Inclusive' breakfast was a joke. Coffee from a portable urn, juice from a carton that was a mix of every fruit concentrate imaginable and a miserable selection of sticky cake. That was it!
Avoid at all costs. Pity we didn't heed the reviews.
