    Varicose vein treatment

I'm currently in Bangkok, and suffering now considerable discomfort from an alarmingly angry vein in my leg by the knee. Its been getting more painful all week, and looks like a terrifying zigzag. Its time to act.

I emailed Bumrungrad,as I have used the hospital before, but have yet to recieve a consultation appointment.

A couple of questions......if I have the surgery here, would I be fit to fly by the end of the month? (ie,in a weeks time). I wouldn't want to bleed out at 35,000 feet. And,if I don't get sorted this week, would flying back be a risk with the ailment/diseased vein still causing grief?

Any info on varicose vein treatment and recovery much appreciated.

I googled "varicose veins" and clicked on the images....some monstrous examples there.....mine isn't extreme, but painful all the same, and causing anxiety. I dont know if its an emergency situation, but better to be safe than sorry.

Also,if not Bumrungrad, anyone have experience of treating vvs in another Bangkok hospital?

    Grazie.

Bumrundgrad made contact with a next day appointment....unfortunately it was with their cosmetic surgery division, and not the serious vein disorder crew,so another appointment was scheduled for the same evening with a different but appropriate specialist, on the 16th floor of the clinic building. No charge was made for first consultation as it was with the wrong department.

The second appointment was all as it should be. Location was a top place in more ways than one! Excellent environment, super-attentive service and prompt medical diagnosis by a very articulate doctor. Several tests performed and scheduled investigative ultrasound booked for a few days time to see if radiotherapy is possible,as opposed to stripping veins from legs. Cost for that will be 16,000 bht.

Legs measured and within minutes was collecting a gel and tablets (Reparil) as well as a set of surgical compression stockings. After suffering pain for a few days, the stockings provide instant relief. They look weird, but do a job.Brand is Venosan. I imagine I shouldn't need to wear them after the surgery, but unsure of that as I didn't ask.

No idea what the main proceedure will cost....in the UK two legs racks up about four grand,so anything below 200,000 bht will be a result.

Of course,I have to stay an extra week or two in Bangkok, but that isn't a bad thing.....

Next phase of treatment in a week, hopefully followed by intentional collapse of veins by radio frequency. Recovery another week, then can fly back to Europe.

    So far so good.

Im back in the UK,had both legs done in the Bumrungrad almost three weeks ago. Flew home 8 days after surgery. I was asked how it went by pm,but owing to a lack of posts I am unable to reply.

I will post full details of interaction with hospital, doctors and aftercare this week.

Yosser, hi, it's been a few years now but ... but i just found your thread and I'd be interested to learn more about the surgery and the results, as I'm sure would others. Perhaps you could add a wrap-up to this thread

For example, did you have locals and sedation or just locals? was there much pain/discomfort during and after the procedure? are you satisfied with the results? what was the name of the doctor you had? total cost? any other things to note/be aware of? Cheers
