    Get your cholesterol checked

recently I had found myself getting out of breath easily, so i went and had a blood test for cholesterol, well would you believe less than 2 weeks later and a day after i phone to get my results, I have a heart attack!!.
Result 3 stents to open 2 blockages, and 3 days in hospital.

So all you guys sitting under your salas throwing back beers, I would strongly advise a health check.
by the way i'm only 50 and by no means over weight.

What was your LDL cholesterol reading?

Your diet / Way of Eating (WOE)?

Do you have heart disease in your family history?

    Artherosclorosis? [sic]

Phunphin did you partake in regular exercise before your attack. And why did it take 2 weeks to receive the results of a blood test?

After undergoing angioplasty or bypass surgery, it's important to correct the problems that led to the need for the procedure, such as high cholesterol or blood pressure, a poor diet, smoking, or lack of exercise.

I'm happy that you survived your heart attack. Now it's time to address the reasons for your high cholesterol, and to make a healthy diet and exercise plan - and to follow through with that plan.

Some people have inherited Cholesterol such as my self. I could run around the world 15 times and it would still be sitting on 9.5

I've been on the gear since age 30 and will be for life. All good now and sits at 5.5 which is good for me.

Most people have high Cholesterol through life style choices though.

I was reading recently that this is what you should have done - not sure where in bangkok that does it

Cardiac computed tomography (CT) for Calcium Scoring uses special x-ray equipment to produce pictures of the coronary arteries to determine if they are blocked or narrowed by the buildup of plaque – an indicator for atherosclerosis or coronary artery disease (CAD). The information obtained can help evaluate whether you are at increased risk for heart attack.

Right, yes I thought i was pretty fit, but a change of job last year saw me spending more time driving and preforming less strenuous activity.
Plus years of eating chocy biscuits and pies etc did the damage.
my levels were very high (7-8) on the bad side but also high on the good side...
luckly here in NZ heart attacks are treated seriously, and I was diagnosed and on meds within hours of admission.
and the treatment angioplasty is free at public hospitals.

I had a blood test as the optician sent me to the doctors after an eye test, apparently they can see cholesterol in your eyes.
Statins for me now, no problems from the statins and cholesterol back to normal.

Please to hear you found out in time and have it sorted.

It would have cost 350,000 baht in a mid range private hospital here in Thailand. Thats jjust fotr the angioplasty and stents.

That's just over 13 K AUD. Not to bad really.

Depending on what private hospital one goes to of course.

In Australia if ya present at the Hospital with a heart attack going on you are strait into Surgery and sorted. Public hospital cost free.

God bless the Nanny state when one is having a heat attack.

I make you right there Terry, I experienced that when We landed in Sydney, Mary was taken by ambulance to A n E and no questions asked. Okay I got the bills later but it wasn't money up front.

Fair point, in Sydney you got lucky.
It's not the same Aus wide.
Especially now with the immigration issues that some folk so vociferously support.

I imagine you are not an Australian citizen ?

If not an Australian citizen you would need to pay but as an Australian citizen you would pay nothing or very little when presented to a Public Hospital. Anywhere in Australia this applies.

Everyone must pay for the Ambulance transfer though. If not Insured this transfer is very expensive these days.

If I had an Australian passport I would be living there, My Mary was traveling on a Thai passport, she hadn't attained her British passport at that stage . Now if you need medical care and you have a British passport the U.K. Government reimburses the Aussie health system the cost.
I paid some of Marys bills, and the ones that came later where written off to an Aussie debt collection agency who never contacted me. So the outstanding amount as far as I'm concerned was written off in 2004.

    ^^

    That sounds very good then.

Up against the same thing happening in America or many other countries where they would of emptied your wallet.

    Glad Mary was OK.
