    Good rap for alcohol

Alcohol generally has a bad reputation but I must say that I have found it very useful when getting into the same mind space of my father who has dementia and will very shortly be residing in a rest home. Making the time during the care process to excuse oneself with a plausible reason to instead get some quality boozing and gambling time at the local pub has been very beneficial in terms of a much needed time out. Of course once he is off to the rest home it will be a month off the booze but in the meantime... So yes, in terms of dealing with dementia, and cooking, alcohol is very useful.

Sorry to hear that. Dealing with a parent with dementia can be very, very, very difficult.

    My sincere sympathies.

Thanks nid, am now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Two months of this feels like two years however tax-payer NZ health system is there when needed, and very much appreciated, would hate to be uninsured in US or Thailand if in a similar situation.

That's a sad situation for your old man. Had a mate who got it at the age of 52 we seen it coming sort ?of because he could never remember a fucking thing, he managed to keep his shit together for a few years because he was concerned about loosing his income and thus his assets. Poor bastard is in a care home now and doesn't even recognize his wife. Fucking terrible, yes drink as much as you can munted

52 is young for dementia, the old man is 80 so has had it good till now. Will be well cared at the place he's going to, probably won't matter too much to him, he'll be in his own little world. It's when he can't even make breakfast you know he's got to go. But got to do what must be done, don't know how some families can abandon the old ones when they go that way. It's not hard to give up a couple of months to see him on his way. And the self-medication helps
