I know the guy who runs this homestay up near Pai. It's mostly rehab people who go there to do hard core detox. The guy (an old American) is very good at this, as well as full detox he does psychology sessions and meditations.

It's very minimalist, you sleep on a thin mat on a wooden floor. But they get the job done.

Not a junkie myself, a friend sent me up there as a joke - he told me he booked me in for 2 nights at this guy's guest house / resort, and I rock up to this hill tribe village and rehab house.

The guy running it has worked consulting some of the super-expensive rehab joints in Phuket.

It appears old mate has moved into Pai, might what the OP is after. I remember when I stayed there, although the Lisu village was near Suppong, it was pretty remote, and this guy being the only falang in the village must have got a bit stir crazy.

I remember we went for some 'herbal remedies' and he'd built his own small mud shack close to the house on the family land. Said he needed his own space. Anyway Albert I recommend old Albert for a good comprimise between cost and results. Just don't expect it to be comfortable.

NOTE from Albert:After 6 wonderful years of creating the Lisu Homestay with Susanan I have moved to Pai, the popular destination for travelers just one hour south of the Lisu village. I offer the same high quality Detox and Meditation programs at the Shangri La guest house and Health Retreat. Our web site is Detox Health Retreat, Pai, Thailand and you can contact me at Paiinthai@gmail.com. I am very pleased that my Lisu family is doing a great job of keeping the Homestay alive. Those of you who remember me may enjoy a 10% discount at my new location. Thank you for the many fine years of support that has made the Homestay program a huge success. I look forward to seeing you in Pai.

The guy is not a qualified psycho-therapist. He calls himself a psychologist but that is also dubious. He was a Chicago bus driver in a former life before selling everything and coming to Thailand.

He does know how to get people off the shite though, proven track record and he's been there himself. Good luck. Thailand does have good rehab / detox places but it's also a relapse fest. Heroin and most other things are cheap and easily available, the heroin is pretty good shit (as you probably already know).

If you're really serious about cleaning up there is also Wat Thamkrabok near Saraburi. It's hardcore and very austere detox, but it works and doesn't cost very much. Your asked to make a donation if you can, and you need about 100 baht a day for food.
    Welcome to Thamkrabok Monastery

    Red face

    Hi SunLover!
I've recently returned from a trip to Chiang Mai where I had treatment for addiction - I can't recommend these guys enough!
I've read about a few places in Thailand that offer various means of coming off substances like heroin (including the temple which sounded a bit too intense for me, but I hear they do a great job!), but was impressed by the support offered at this particular place. They had a strong focus on dealing with the mental issues not just the physical stuff).
The whole treatment lasted just a couple of days, and after some short recovery time I left feeling completely free of addiction. Obviously I'm trying to avoid going back into old habits, but so far so good!
Their website is yourselftherapy. com - maybe PM me if you want to have a chat about it?
Good luck with your journey - I hope that whatever option you choose you get the help you need.

It's difficult to see any kind drug rehab treatment taking only a couple of days. Just the physical addiction off a mild heroin habit takes at least 3 days. Other pharmaceuticals and drugs like methadone or methamphetamine much longer to get out of your system. It takes at least 10 days to detox from cannabis.
Tobacco addicts can have cravings which continue for years.

Largely getting off whatever you're hooked on is about making one decision: the decision not to take the first hit. It's about that simple and should be kept as simple as possible.

BTW the above link take you to a Christian marriage counselor in Virginia.

Above all keep some faith that you can do it and it helps to develop a support network like any one of the 12 steps programs or some other spiritual aspirations.
    Good luck.
