Sorry to hear you're doing poorly. If you can get some paracetemol, it would help lower the fever. (Stay away from aspirin though.) Ice packs on the forehead or on the back of the neck always help if you want to avoid medicine.

    Get well soon, ned.

Get to a HOSPITAL or doctor FAST, you're in the 5th day, so you're having massive headaches, shitting and having spasms.

There's another 5-7 days ahead for you.

    Different types of dengue.

Worst form is hemorrhagic, where all the little red dots on your skin connect up and you start to bleed under the skin,

The same is happening in your intestines.

You start going through autolysis, self digestion, as you digest your own blood and shit it out as a black liquid.

Your urine may also be dark.

5-7 days solid non-stop headache, then 5-7 days of intermittent headaches.

SPASMS, your body gets tense and stiffens.

    Very high temperature.

NO appetite for anything, food, beer, cigarettes (good time to stop smoking for keeps).

DON''T take aspirin, makes bleeding worse.

DONT drink alcohol at all for weeks.

DON'T tough it out on your own, but you think you can, make sure someone is around, better still go to a hospital, it's the best.

DO drink plenty of water with.... 1tablespoon of sugar and 1 teaspoon salt per litre ,...for dehydration.

DO drink water all the time.

DO take a Vit C tablets every hour, or so.

DO take an opiate muscle relaxant.

DO take codeine for the headaches.

    DO sleep and rest lots.

DO cool your head with cold water etc.

I'm typing with spaces because you might find it hard to read by now.

I caught it a few years back, it's no good at all, hemorrhagic form.

ACT NOW GO TO HOSPITAL MATE.

Shit ned, what a bummer. Almost time to go and you come down with a mosquito infection. Best of luck mate, and get better soon. Every day is more of your duty free whiskey saved mate.

ENT put up some useful advice. Follow as much as you can. I can tell ya work on getting better, it aint like the old days mate. If you arent proper and suave how can you hang in the "love shack", Follow the docs advice if he has a brain, and listen to your mates on here. The "love shack" does not accept the ill, I dont think, family and all.

Cheers mate. But once more, that last steak was great.

Dengue varies a lot in severity, and how it effects an individual. A bloke I know had it around here (he seems to cop everything that is going around) but for him, it wasn't too bad. Felt like shit for a 3 -4 days, then on the mend for a few days, then over it. I'd certainly be nursing yourself for a few days Ned- and there is some good advice in this thread- but it seems you haven't copped a bad dose, touch wood.

    ^^
    In the mild form, yes.
In the hemorrhagic form it starts early and persists until all the veins are bleeding under the skin, like a fine network, often on the legs.
    By then it's almost over.
Takes about another 2 weeks before you start feeling normal.
Then another 6 weeks to fully recuperate and get all your strength back,(almost0

    Massive weight loss.

DON'T drink any alcohol in that time, it has the saddest effect on you, you get zonked too easily and go silly and feel fwkn sick, hangovers are wicked on just a couple of beers.

So you're in Oz, right ?

Dengue is not life threatening, and you should be right as rain in 2 weeks bud.

Get plenty of rest, and loads of Gatorade down ya

All the best mate, Get Well Soon

He'll be fine, and swinging one of your fillets around and getting his arse out very soon, from what I've read

He's been diagnosed with Dengue Fever, not what ENT is talking about

'Dengue fever should not be confused with Dengue hemorrhagic fever, which is a separate disease that is caused by the same type of virus but has much more severe symptoms.

I only hope so mate but the last time he said he was OK and didn't want me to take him to the hospital he almost died. My missus had to rush him there at midnight and straight into the ICU. Tough little grunt that he is.

I remember last year, was it his leg ?

There's no prescription or cure for Dengue Fever though, just gotta keep himself hydrated and rested.

He will be like a coiled spring when he gets over here

Like I said there are different strains of the disease.

The treatment is the same for each.

No some infected tick had bitten him, I can't remember the name of the illness it caused, he had a unknown abscess behind his kneecap, it swelled because of the illness and burst and he got severe blood poisoning. It was touch and go for a while there.

You can read about it here.

    Shouldn't complicate the problem.
