Health Insurance - Lying Cheatin Turds

Anyone heard of this before ?

A friend of mine has just given birth, full health insurance etc. But turns out that the baby, who is currently in ICU cannot get his/her own health insurance policy number until he/she is 15 days old.

The baby was covered with the family insurance for the birth, but for none of the hospital care afterwards.

    doesnt sound right to me.

You read these kinds of things from time to time and it never fails to surprise. Sadly it wouldn't surprise me if it was correct.

It's not BUPA, but I'm pretty sure they're telling the truth, the said they heard if from the hospital first and then it got confirmed from the insurance company later.

They'll do anything to pay a little less. I'm sure their special day would have been better without this extra hassle; I hope they are in a position financially for this not to stress them out too much!

all the best to your friends.

There's been a few hassles/concerns with the child, hence being in ICU, last I heard it will be minimum one week to two weeks inside.

I think they're ok, but that's about 60-100,000 baht that could have used for something else. *

It would not surprise me if its true. It's genius really. they get 15 days to find out which babies are going to be real lemon's so they can refuse coverage.

Better half has a full insurance package from AMI, i believe, and I have to say I am somewhat stunned at just how much you end up paying as co pays when you use it. I can see why medical bills in the US are the leading cause of bankruptcy, even for those with insurance.

Given that bupa is a mutual society are they any less inclined to stuff you on paying out?

I never had a single problem with BUPA, never forked out a cent up front, everything was always covered.

I heard somewhere that you werent covered if you had an accident on a motorbike, but I never needed to find out if that was true.

I have insurance with Alliance, but they refuse to cover me if something happens to me in the States, or HK.

    go figure.

Same with Global Health Care but you can opt for the higher tiered policy which does cover in N. America.

^Not sure about why HK was excluded, but medical care is so unbelievably expensive; it really does need to be treated separately. On my cover including US cover would have tripped the cost of the package!

for all that money, you would have though they would be able to demonstrate a significant increase in average life expectancy of the rest of the western world.

Yeah, I go their rarely, so when I do a 2 or 4 week travel insurance policy does the job.
