Homegrown bakery chain BreadTalk is now expanding in Thailand to the tune of one or two new outlets a month, its chairman George Quek said on Wednesday.

At this pace, BreadTalk expects to have 30 to 50 stores open in Thailand within the next three years, Mr Quek said, and 80 stores by 2016.

The 80 stores will include another of its brands, Food Republic. The mainboard-listed firm currently has 17 outlets in Thailand across three brands: the BreadTalk bakery, coffee and toast chain Toast Box and Chinese meat dumpling chain Din Tai Fung.

BreadTalk currently has over 400 outlets in 16 countries, across seven brands.

Their operations in PRC and other SE are very good for Vietnamese / Chinese bakery products.

Thailand will be a challenge for them to maintain consistency ....
Raisin bread from that Saint E'tole shop in Central Pattaya at TB80 per loaf.....you will get everything from no raisins to bread sliced so think and eratically it will not fit in the toaster all in the matter of 3-4 visits.

Goes back to that "M" word Thai's don't seem understand ... Maintenance (of standards)

You make your own? - I'll get the beers in.

I got a bread-making machine a few years ago (Severin brand) that is pretty good, but either me or the missus is inconsistent with the ingredients / flour quality.

Problem solved and machine mothballed when a Danish fella opened a local bakery here in Banchang Rayong.

Bread Talk is really one of weaker of the bread and bakery stores sprouting up everywhere. St-Etoile is very good and Yamazaki is not bad.

No. But I know a small person who does.

I'm going to do an experiment and see how well a loaf of bread stands up to being mailed. Only up to Nong Khai to start with, but it'll be interesting to see what sort of state it gets there in.
