| Worst Meal Ever OK, not quite the worst meal "ever" (there was this "curry" in Kuala Lumpur that must take that title...), but it was pretty bad. I'm talking about the Sizzler's restaurant in Central Festival, Phuket. "Steak and Pork Sausage with French fries" was what I ordered. The g/f had "Steak and Barbecued Chicken with jacket potato". While waiting for the main course, we went to the salad bar and helped ourselves to the usual stuff. The quail's eggs were OK, and most of the other stuff, but the thing that really ruined the meal was the atmosphere. Like a lot of restaurants in Phuket, the concept of sound-deadening materials on the ceilings and walls just hasn't made it here. You could hear people talking 30 feet away, and they weren't shouting. It was as if the roof reflected every sound back down. You could hear the crashing of the plates in the kitchen, the cutlery being thrown into bins, the constant humming of the air-con. It was more like the cheap food-hall in Big C than a supposedly 'decent' eatery. And then came the main courses. The steak certainly looked good, but was about half the size of that in the picture in the menu. And it tasted "old". No other way to describe it - it wasn't "off" or going bad, but it just wasn't fresh. It was certainly cooked well - nice and burnt on the outside and red in the middle, but it didn't taste right. The g/f's steak tasted the same and she left some of it. The pork sausage: well, they must've run out because what I got was a typical rubbery Thai sausage, pink all through with a skin like a condom and a flavour that just makes you want to spit it out. Nothing like in the picture, and nothing like the words "pork" and "sausage" imply. I get better sausages from the Phuket Butcher shop on Chao Fah East road. Why can't Sizzler's? The "chicken barbecue": my g/f didn't eat much of it. She gave me some to try and it tasted like it was cooked in vinegar. I scraped off as much sauce as I could, but couldn't get rid of the horrible flavour, so it was left un-eaten. The chips: thank Buddha they didn't mess these up. With no sausage to eat and a tiny piece of odd-tasting steak, I relied on the chips filling me up until I could get home and have something decent to eat. I didn't leave a tip. This visit was the second time I'd been to Sizzler's in about 3 years. I may try again in 3 years time.

| The Grand Wazoo | Sizzler's even in the USA are mediocre at best. I never could understand why so many flock into those places, I just had one of the worst meals ever at a little French place on Soi San Sabai here in Patong. I was with a couple of friends. One ordered a potato dish with bacon cheese onion... Myself an the other friend ordered the "special" which was basically just spaghetti and meat balls for 290 baht. First out was the potato dish. It had to be sent back because it was cold! A few minutes later the spaghetti and meatballs arrive. now for 290 baht you would expect the best spaghetti an meatballs on the planet wouldn't you? Not.... the meatballs were still frozen inside and the sauce lukewarm! Sauce didn't even taste good. It was inedible! I call "strike three" and we paid for our drinks and got up to leave. About that time the potato dish shows back up with the staff, they went to hide after dropping off the cold meatballs. There was the standard idiot staff scurrying around but we were out of there never to come back. ( I gathered that the owner was away on vacation!)(moral if you run a restaurant don't take any holidays) We went around the corner to the Faulty Towers restaurant and had three of the best cheeseburgers Patong has to offer as a consolation. |

| my worst meal was when I had 'dogshit on toast' -- I was hungry and also fucking skint - just shoved the last 10 quid up my arm so , I saw some remains on the pavement - and just thought ' what the fuck - I am a rock and roll rebel on the sea of time ' - and pocketed it! |

| If you ever go to Nakhon Phanom DO NOT try the pizza from Rocky's place (I can't remember the name of the shop but it's run by a guy named 'Rocky' from Chicago). Definitely the worst pizza I've ever tried. Ate half a slice and binned the rest. Disgusting!! |

the Thai staff always want to go to sizzler. They consider it to be the height of sophistication. Processed meats and fat fries. awful. they have won the argument once or twice and whenever we have been there hasd been a queue of people waiting to be seated. unbelievable in a city with some of the best value and varied restaurants I have ever seen.

| In Udon there is a Thai version of a fast food restuarant called BKK grill. The food is truly AWFUL, even my kids wouldn't eat it, but granted it is cheap. Funny thing is on the local udon website they rave about it. Udon Thani, Thailand Forum - - View topic - BKK Grill Probably because being dirt cheap overrides the fact that the food is crap. |

| My worst meal ever (a few of 'em, actually) was in the Philippines: the prawns in the Chinese were so off, they stank. It took some persuasion to convince staff of this fact, they brought me a chicken dish instead and then tried to charge me for both - nothing out of the usual over there. Second place takes the goo they used to serve in the university refractory when I studied in Leeds - pizza or beef stew, it all had the same flavour and consistency. Third is some of the "gaeng" my neighbours here in Northern Thailand concoct, looks like poo boiled in water, smells and tastes like it, too - except for the heapful of chillies which is my excuse for not partaking. |
