Today's Special - Jurassic Era Frogs

It appears that my local shop owner has just returned from a lucrative sabatical in Jurassic Park.
Awaiting potential customers at his workaday emporium now lie a bucket of fucking dinosaurs for discerning foodies to quench their appetites.

For a mere 25 baht, you too can substitute your pork, chicken or beef with one of these monstrous amphibians to accompany your pad pet or pad kapow.

Here's one of the males destined for the pot..

    And a female..

And a happy couple who suggest they may be best partaken with a certain Australian Award Winning beverage..

Can't quite see the attraction myself..but I do eat chunks of cows arse on a weekly basis so that's not really relevant..

How do you know what sex they are? It's not as though the males have cocks, or do they?

I hit these pricks over the head with the shovel as they come in from the Klong across the road and eat the fish in my pond.
By the size of the ones in your photos STS , I think I'm dealing with at least Tb35 -45 feasts

If I would have known this I would probably have enough by now to buy an carton of that Australian Award Wining Beverage and the wife would not have to go running to the Wat to pray for the toad and my passage to reincarnation.

That's Emu Bitter you are talking about?

You could be onto a little earner there, then. Although to the western pallet they taste BAD in my opinion.

Look a little closer at the pic, old chap. If that doesn't jog any memories, study the label of a of bottle of Beer Chang.

If Mr Slap turns one over and tickles their belly, the male one will get an erection.

I often wondered what was in the big ice cooler boxes when we walked to Klong Toey market, the ones all along the road top end of soi pasingtoh.I reckon there are about 20.

Wish i never found out full of frogs.

At Doi Saket you can get four colourful crispy tree frogs BBQed on a stick for Bt10 or 20. Never partaken myself.

If you go to France they have millions of them that weight 12 stone or better, don't let the resident poofties know this or they will want to gorge on them.

I've ate battered frog before a few times in Cambodia, but they're much smaller than these. Dont think I could handle eating one of these fat ones.

In my garden we get many huge toads, about 6-8 inches across. Even Thais do not eat toads, but they do have another use ==> lottery numbers!!

Here's a typical fat toad with it's mottled tummy skin.

Can you spot the lottery numbers? Not easy is it? My Thai family will rub talcum power into the toad's tummy so as to try to enhance whatever numbers are hidden in the mottling.

Anyway, old Simon would walk around the garden at night with a felt tip pen and make it a little easier for them...

    Sorted

Yeah, they're great. My girlfriend is crazy about frog curry, and has me eating it now too. In the States I only ever ate sauteed frog legs. The frogs from where I grew up are a lot bigger than the wimpy buggers you get in Thailand.

The frogs in slap's OP are huge! Are they native to Thailand, or should we expect some future type of Cane Toad plague, like in Aus?

Yes they are big bastards - never seen them that size up until then. And honestly no trick photography with the ol Nokia...
