I know someone who cooks a pretty darn good version...
Are they in Jakarta or Jamaica?
Mmmm.. yeah just the though of it, very few Indo restaurants in the UK but plenty in Holland and that was my favorite.. the search is now on.
Had a Indo neighbor do one last week, so brought some 2 kg beef and will do one myself tomorrow. It will be excellent as I am a fine cook. :)
WTF is it? Pics? Recipe?
I'd never heard of it either. Looks bloody good though and it's made me hungry.:)Quote:

What is "sambal olekk" and where can you get it from over here?
Best way is to go to Villa and buy a pack of the Malay or Singaporean Rendang seasoning. It is damn good.
Agreed, good beef and a lot of time simmering is the key I have found..Quote:

Went there recently and it is no longer on the menu.
Time to start doing it yourself now then!!Quote:

It really isn't that difficult, BC.
The cut of beef is relatively irrelevant because this is a slow and long cooking dish.
Main ingredients are the curry powder, coconut milk and lemon grass.
Anything else you can get improves it, cinnamon, cloves, curry leaves.
The pics posted above are very 'hygenic', there should be more oil visible.
It's a 'dry' curry so a lot of the pics on google images are not quite right.
