Went to that steak restaurant at the top of the Landmark Hotel on Suk.

RR&B or Rib Room & Bar it’s named.

It calls itself the best steak house in Bangkok.

Our regional manager is leaving so he said “I’ll take you to dinner, perhaps
for the last time, so make it somewhere good”.

Never been to this place before and I heard it was expensive.
So as the company was paying I thought, why not?

We had a tuna dish as a starter and then ordered some steaks I had Sirloin
300g which was 1,700 baht and he ordered Tenderloin 300g at 2,500 baht.

My steak was not bad, but was not worth 1,700 and he only took a bite out
of his and left the rest.
When the waitress asked him what was wrong he said it tasted like they
had just took it out of the freezer and grilled it as is.

He would not accept another one but did not make a big fuss either.

We then had a dessert of cheesecake, - average and some coffee.

He had a bottle of wine, which was around 2,500 Baht and I had two
or three whiskeys - Black Label.

The bill came to 11,200 Baht – way too expensive for what it was.

The décor and ambience was not that good either.
Had a good view of Bangkok though.

I would not recommend it to anyone, (well maybe an enemy or two).
So don’t take yer wifey there for her birthday or anything like that.

I should have went to the steak house in JW Marriot just down the
road a wee bit. Would have been better that this place I’m sure.

I refuse to patronize those sort of places as I always walk out feeling Ive just payed a shit load of money for something I could cook just as well, usually better
and definitely a fraction of the cost.

Yesterday a few friends and I decided to visit a Famous tourist waterfront place to have there famous fish and chips and enjoy the ambiance. I broke my golden rule of not going to such places but thought lets give it a crack.

Chips where shit, crappy piece of fish and a very expensive can of coke later I walked out cursing myself for even going there.

Ah fok it mate, I love street food and eating halls where the food is fresh, healthy, tasty and cheap.

Bash those high class restaurants straight down the shitter.

Thanks for the info, sadly our food section gets very few postings, I'm always looking for current and unbiased comments on the high end buffets in Bangkok and it's difficult to find any.
I suppose if I had posted some it might have helped.

If an imported steak comes out nuked (straight from freezer-microwave-grill), I immediately complain and have it sent back. For the prices most of these places charge it really is taking the piss bigtime, if they can't get a simple steak right.

Marriot is possibly the best place for a Steak in Bangkok.

Never impressed by Neils' Tavern however - they make a big Production of bringing out a Tray of Deep Frozen cuts and inviting you to choose; 20 minutes later your Steak is served.

Always assuming that the piece of meat on your plate was the actual piece you chose clearly it has been "zapped" in the Microwave then cooked.

NOT the way I expect my Baht 2,000.- Steak to be treated.

(Of course I am well aware that this goes on elsewhere "behind the scenes", I just object to the pretentious showmanship.)

Call me old-fashioned, if you wish, but, in my view, anybody who pays 2000 baht for a steak has

(i) no idea of the real value of money,

(ii) almost certainly has never worked hard to earn it,

(iii) requires medical attention.

I like a nice steak along with a nice bottle of wine,however at 2500bht for a piece of tenderloin I think they are taking the piss.

I have also stayed at the Landmark and I was not overimpressed,the rooms were fine although the service was not good enough for 4350bht per night. Just as well the company was paying

I had a long weekend in the Kingpower Pullman in Pratunam last year. My girlfriend and I booked the weekend above the 16th Floor which are the Executive rooms, top service,well looked after, free food and alcohol between 1600hrs and 1930hrs.
There are a couple of very nice restaurants in their too, although nowhere near the 2500bht rip-off at the Landmark

The local grown steak you can purchase at Foodland is very good and a fraction of the cost of imported steak.

I have to admit I have paid these ridiculous prices for steaks and only on rare occasions been happy with the purchase.

The 1700 Baht and the 2500 Baht steaks where the cheapest on the menu.
If I remember correctly there where 300g steaks at 3,500 and 500g steaks at 5000 Baht.
I agree with Can that you must be off your head to pay these prices, but when your boss says let’s have a good expensive meal and he’s paying, well fuck it, why not?
Can always say, been there done that.

In case anyone has not been here:
A few weeks earlier when he came to town, I took him to Limoncello, which is in Soi 11 Sukhumvit.
It is about 250 meters up Soi 11 on the left as you walk up from Suk and down a wee Soi.
It looks like it was once a big house, very nice looking restaurant.
Service was very good, - food – Italian – was excellent and the price was very reasonable.
If you want to try it I think you’ll need to book a table. It seemed to be very popular.

There is a sort of Tex-Mex place in Soi 11, not far from Cheap Charlie's which is OK. Unfortunately food is very overpriced in this area. The Indian restaurant over the road from Charlie's has nice food but at nearly 1000 baht for simple starter and one main course is extortionate.

That would be the reborn Charlie Brown's. The original with Dan in charge out in Lat Prao, Town in Town was the first real nice American style restaurant in town. Mexican, good steaks, just a good simple proper meal. But he sold it to Thai interests and they moved it to soi 11. He went into Danitos chips and tortillas. Doing very very well.

At the very end of Soi 11 there's a Korean sauna and massage that's great if your just wanting what it says it is. Many flight attendants and pilots go there in between trips.

I had a few great steak dinners in Jools on Soi 4 when it was owned by Big Dave as I'm sure your did as well. Cheap as chips back in the day.

Prices are getting higher all the time in Thailand and they are, to an extent, being driven upwards because high earners are showing off. I've seen it all before. It is evidence of an impending slump in the economy.

It might seem ridiculous that a silly price for a steak can cause economic chaos but it is what happens. The steak price is just a symptom of imbalance in the economy of the country. My advice is don't pay silly prices, keep your money as you are likely to need it soon.

A big slump, with devaluation of the baht, would be just right for me in about three years time.

I know Pattaya is not Bangkok, but in the Mata Hari which i guess could be classed as upmarket (for Pattaya) i seem to recall a decent steak was in the 600-800 baht range and Manhattans next door maybe a couple of hundred baht more which both seemed reasonable to me at the time or rather i didn't class them as over priced, but fok paying 2,500 baht (£50) for a 300g steak. I had a 800g sirloin steak cooked to perfection for £9.95 (500 baht) here in the UK couple of days ago.

The best steak I have had in Thailand was done by Timber. I'm sure he made a loss every time we went there, but it was a real experience every visit.

A top quality imported steak is about 800B for an inch thick fillet, and that's the price from the importer.

I'm taking the Midget out on Saturday for a steak - prolly go to the Bookhouse in Udon as the Baan Thai Steak House we went to for last year's birthday meal was an abomination. Whoever recommended that on a local forum needs shooting. What on Earth possessed him to believe a Chinky Thai could cook steak is beyond me.

Here I would be afraid to eat the replacement steak after I complained and embarrassed the so called chef. Good steak is just one of those things you almost cannot get in Thailand. (kind of like looking for an intelligent conversation with a woman in a beer bar)

Bit of a cheat here!!!! I flew from Bangkok to Hong Kong with Emirates a few months ago for a meeting. I flew on the EK384 (A380) which leaves about 1330pm as the flight is under five hours I was not entitled to fly Business Class (oil company rules.)

I used the B/C Lounge in Bangkok and while I was there I asked for a steak as the other meal choices were either Thai or Arabic.
Whoever cooked the steak was actually spot on.They brought me a beautiful piece of Sirloin steak done rare with wild mushrooms and red wine sauce,broccoli and glazed carrots.A couple of nice glasses of Chateau Neuf Du Pape along with the meal. Very Nice.

Not sure how much it would have cost in a nice restaurant in Bangkok it would have been substantial though.
