    A 1 Million Rp Burger

1 million rups is over $100 or about 4000 baht.

How Rp 1m can show that you really care
Jim Read, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta
Some people buy roses, others a diamond ring.

If you really want to demonstrate to your loved one that you genuinely care about them how about taking them out for a hamburger?
They made a big fuss about it in New York and London, and now it's the turn of Jakarta. Four Seasons Jakarta recently launched its Rp 1 million "gourmet burger", which seems aimed at people desperate to create a good impression, the plain curious, the upwardly mobile and Jakarta socialites.
The Rp 1 million job is their top-of-the-range number in a five-item menu that starts with chopped sirloin beefburger (with grilled asparagus, wild mushroom ragout, smoked cheddar and alfalfa spouts) for Rp 150,000.
For up-market clubbers on their way from the south of the city to the north (or vice versa), why not make a pit-stop at Four Seasons' Steak House and give it a try? It will make a change from snacking at that traditional haunt, The Sultan's (formerly The Hilton's) Peacock Cafe.
You can always share the Rp 1 million job, if only to satisfy your curiosity, and order some of the lesser burgers (pricewise) on the menu.
What do you get for that seven-figure sum? Four Seasons invited me to try one out recently.
A Big Mac this certainly isn't. The burger comes on a huge white plate, with french fries and plenty of other trimmings, including duck foie gras on a skewer. You also get a complimentary glass of red or white wine of the day.
The meat is ultra-succulent, top-grade Kobe beef and it's served with Portobello mushrooms. (Personally I'd have preferred shiitake, but who's complaining?)
The french fries are cooked to perfection (no mean feat, as it's so easy to ruin them by using oil that is either too cold or by overcooking them). They come with a superb range of dips including wasabi mayonnaise, which was just out of this world as an accompaniment.
With all the chutzpah I could muster I looked the waiter straight in the eye and asked for some tomato ketchup. After all, what is a burger without its usual sauce? To his great credit he fetched it straight away, without flinching for even a nanosecond.
The ultimate question must surely be, "it worth it?"
The reply can only be a further set of rhetorical questions. What does "worth" actually mean in this instance? How can one quantify in monetary terms the passion between two lovers?
Equally, who is to deny rich kids on a night out a chance to boast afterward to their yuppie pals that they blew Rp 1 million on a burger? The Steak House

My mouth is watering! Sounds like it's worth a trip to Jakarta!

( I shouldn't read posts like this around dinner time!)

It's amazing how much money TEFLers can make, when they put their mind to it - he even mentioned ordering a few drinks in the place on top of the 1 mill burger!
I should give it a go, teaching English to the native dumbfekks, that is. I sure can spell better than Kingdick.

I assume he is actually a Thai, so it is not his fault.

I think he's just part of the trash that washes up on the shores of thailand, I mean that's why they are tightening the visa regulations, innit it? no need to insult Thais to compare them with scum like this.
Took me about 15 minutes to work that out.

that i am matey - that i am, usually have a cool mill in each pocket and a bit more my wallet, problem is the dumb fecks is that you usually only get 50,000 rupiah notes out of most atm's (= 200 baht) - you try carrying around 10 or 20K worth of thai money in the nothing larger than 100 (or 200 baht notes, if we had them)

    =BIG PAIN IN THE ASS!

hmmmm...I tried the big tasty...its a big azz burger to say the least. reminds me of a Fuddruckers burger back in the states (any of you fellow comrades know that place...pretty f'in good) But they kill it with goddang chili sauce. I just still stick to my regulars when I head over to MCdizzles....the big mac and the regular cheeseburger...I just keep it simple
