Best English draught beers I tasted in a recent 3 week visit.

I only manage to get to blighty once every 3 or 4 years and it is a fact of life that as I get older the visits are normally to attend funerals. However, recently my wife and I spent 3 weeks there to attend my youngest son's graduation ceremony at Southampton Uni..,,So this time around it meant more visits to the pub so I thought you might like to see my top DRAUGHT pints..

    1. Definately the best pint was to be had in the Kings Head in Wimborne, A place I recall from the 70s that had bearded CAMRA visitors when every other pub was serving Double Diamond etc..Name; Abbot Ale.

    2. It may have been the emotion of seeing my youngest son graduate ( yep I had something in my eye!!) or it could have been my exwife paying but I have to put draught Hobgoblin at a close second place. I have no idea of the name of the pub in Southampton but I do remember the coasters..( Frightened you may taste something lagerboy??)

    3. Ringwood breweries 49er.. Drank in the Young Filly in the New Forest...We went there twice and the colour in the trees was magnificent and the missus loved stroking the horses and the slow drive home through the small villages..

    4. Pickled Partridge Barley Mow, Wimborne. This is a lovely pub!! After my sons had returned to work ( Yep youngest son got a job 3 months before his graduation ceremony!!!) my wife and I went out by ourselves...mainly to appologise for my son's previous drunkeness...and she got rattassed after the second pint. She was fine sitting at the bar laughing because I refused to drink more because I was driving but when she got outside and the fresh air hit her her legs just buckled and down she went..Lovely pint, lovely taste..but hurts yer back carrying the missus to the car..

5 Fursty Ferret...Same pub and this beer was my favourite in there untill PP came along..

    6. Tanglefoot ( Same pub!!!) was my long term favourite beer....I craved for this beer year after year..and so did the missus as she loved it after our previous visit 3 years ago...but I am pleased to say that although Blighty might have become a crock of shit in some respects the ability to brew a bloody good pint continues to improve...

    CHEERS!!

Abbot was my favourite when I lived on UK but if you were on a tight budget ( apprentice) and wanted to get out of your skull at a rapid pace, a pint glass with half Abbot + a bottle of St Edmunds did the trick !!
A couple of those and you were on the fast track to oblivion !!!
If you could get the young lady you were with to have a couple of Green King Barleys you could guarantee being inside her pants before you left the car park !!!

^ Why do these Real Ales have weird names.

I don't feel right asking for a pint of Spotted Cock

    Or this:

    Some lovely ales there Jeremia.

On my annual return to blighty the first thing i do following my arrival at Heathrow is to head for a very nice pub just outside Andover, to sample a few pints of real ale. One of the few things i actually miss about England.

Also get an annual invite to the Beerex festival at my home town although sipping halves is not quite the same.

Thanks for the memories. Some really nice pubs in the New Forest.

"Been to a beer festival today, I had a go on the Bishops Finger, took on the Village Idiot, slurped the Fox's Nob and fired into Old Rosie. How we laughed, that was until we left, when a jam sandwich was parked 100yds up the road. Burgers 4.50 each and I touched a ladies ferret."
