Bangkok - Cheap Charlie Bar Sukhumvit Soi 6

Bangkok - Cheap Charlie Bar Sukhumvit Soi 6.

Well probably Soi 6, might have been Soi 8 but as we had been all over the place and lost everywhere and fined by the pigs I aint really sure,a word of warning here, DO NOT ALLOW KEN MAY to give directions, the odds are you will be arrested or fined.

Anyway this place is a bargain in Bangkok, 50 to 60baht per beer, they got signs up to warn you to move your stool if you are in the way of the traffic, they got so much junk in the bar you cant even see if there is anybody to serve, they even had this suction penis simulator there, it was a bit dusty so I didn't try it, shame random chances wasn't there he would have liked that I think

edited by me cos I don't know my way round Bangkok. It's on Soi 11.

They even have a ladies toilet now, the ladies that were with us were quite impressed.

I don't believe it. Finally after the 100's of bars that the dog has reviewed this is the first one I have ever been to!

    I was wondering....

I often stay at the Ambassador and was sure I passed this place on the way back in the evening. Of course, I could have been staggering down the wrong soi, so who knew?

I guess Bangkok is like Pattaya or anywhere you live...when you live there you know the good places...when you visit you either pay through the nose or drink in the doss holes...

Cheap Charlies is well named and a fair reflection of their clientelle...

personally I prefer places like Tenderloins in Sukhumvit 33 where you get a pint of Heineken or Tiger for 69 baht...complete with attentive bar service and a/c...

the barkeep is named sathit and he is a pretty good fellow. he inherited the bar from the original charlie, who began as a ganja and marlboro light seller some 15 years ago on soi 11.

charlie sold his wares from behind a table until one of the bars did a reno, and he inherited the bar counter. he set it up on the corner and began adding piecemel to it and what you see in the pics is the result.

charlie died of cancer some 12 or so years ago and sathit his cousin took over.

It used to be a great place to meet thai and farang women of all sorts, both professionals and professional girlfriends, air hostess etc with sathit as a sort of beningn protector/older brother figure until a few years back when the chinese-thai landlady decided she would open the suk 11 guesthouse and told sathit that he was not allowed to serve unaccompanied thai women because they looked like hookers.

Sathit rolled over and posted (rather than lose his location) a sign in thai that did not mince words. Women started to refuse to go there period, even when accompanied by their boyfriends, the place became quite depressing, but seems to have gotten over it of late.

though i pass it daily, i haven't been in to see sathit in years. must remember to stop and say hi.

Haven't been there for ages. Used to get a good crowd and good entertainment. Yeah Charlie was the man for quite a while when I was in that area.
Just remembered my mate has opened a spanish tapas bar just in the back among the indians (restaurants that is)
BTW what the f... is a tapas bar?

Tapas (pronounciation: TAH-pas) are a variety of Spanish appetizers, such as mixed olives, cheeses, or an elaborate creation like battered and fried baby squid (Puntillitas). In Spain, tapas are usually given for free to accompany a drink before dinner. In the United States and the United Kingdom, tapas have evolved into an entire cuisine where patrons order many different small Spanish dishes and combine them for a full meal.
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

    Spanish tapas bar?????

    its a franchised charlie brown....

i mean its ok and all, and he's a nice fella (i know him from elsewhere and also) but calling it a spanish tapas bar is a little akin to calling McDonalds an american resteraunt of fine cuisine...
