    Chicken or Duck ?

    I like eggs.

    Especially poached eggs on toast.

I particularly enjoy poached duck eggs on toast.

A larger yolk and so easy to do.

A mate recently bought it to my attention the duck eggs were dodgy cos ducks shit on their own eggs whilst you average chicken doesn't.

Shit on it's own eggs, that is.

Shit, thereby being absorbed into ducks egg, but not into chook egg.

What're your thoughts or preferences on this vitally important matter?

Chicken eggs are the only ones I eat!

Anything else is sick, and probably deserves a custodial sentence along with re-education.

Geese eggs are nice. Larger...richer flavour. Almost gamey. Though not laid as clearly often as your other domestic fowl. Rather exotic.

Bird eggs exit the cloacae -- a common cavity into which the intestinal, genital, and urinary tracts open. That's all three nasties together. It's also the reason birds don't have separate pee and poo. It's all mixed into one wonderful white automotive paint remover -- sorta like pooing in rural Thailand.

As long as you're not eating the shell, I don't think it matters much.

If you are eating the shells, I'd stick with the less poopy ones. Unless your diet is lacking in uric acid.

Duck eggs are bigger than chicken eggs, so you’re getting a lot more for your money. Secondly, the nutritional benefits of eating duck eggs are undeniable. They contain more calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc… the list goes on. The free-range kind are also said to contain much more of the omega-3 fatty acids – you know, the one that has been linked to reducing the risk of heart attacks, amongst other health benefits!

What a silly comment, unless you eat the shell without washing it first.

    From Wikipedia:
A balut is a fertilized duck (or chicken) egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell.

Popularly believed to be an aphrodisiac and considered a high-protein, hearty snack, balut are mostly sold by street vendors in the regions where they are available. It is commonly sold as streetfood in the Philippines. They are common, everyday food in some other countries in Southeast Asia, such as in Laos (where it is called Khai Luk), Cambodia (Pong tea khon in Cambodian), and Vietnam (Trứng vịt lộn or Hột vịt lộn in Vietnamese). They are often served with beer.

The Filipino and Malay word balut (balot) means "wrapped" – depending on pronunciation.

    Bon appetit!

    Not silly at all.

    Daffy shits on eggs.

Shit sits on eggs, soaking slowly through the shell.

Osmotically impregnating the virgin white and succulent yolk with the foul extcrement of Daffy's ass.

Then you crack and poach 'em and swallow them down.

    WOT?

    I don't know.

Have you eaten duck eggs for 15 years?

    Where the eggs shat upon?

Did any of the effluent seep through the shell?

Do you have any virulent duck/feces related illnesses?

    Do I care?

    It's a mystery............

    Health and Duck eggs:

Wiki says: There are some reports that suggest cases of salmonella food poisoning after consuming contaminated duck eggs. This is not a subject of much concern, as the same health risk is posed even while eating chicken egg recipes. The trick is to buy them from reliable farms, rather than opting for cheaper duck eggs from unknown sources. With this food safety logic in mind, you can consume duck eggs and reap the nutrients provided by the same.

I sometimes eat those fermented duck eggs, real salty but nice. Missus calls them 'old egg'. Real peasents food, a 10bt meal with rice.

The nests are checked every day and the eggs are washed when collected, that's all. As said by the same logic you could eat chicken poo and get sick...

    Salty eggs are great.

Salty duck eggs, i've found, are far nicer than salty chicken eggs.

Somehow the duck egg seems to ingest the salt in a more sensitive way, a far more subtle salination.

I've yet to try 100 year old duck eggs. I do like the chicken ones though.

You don't mix them up with "Century" eggs, where the yolk is a green goo and the egg white has gone black?
Kai Eeo Ma (Horse piss eggs) in Thai, Century eggs in Chinese.

Agreed, but very small though, Duck eggs are much easier to handle (and eat).
