    Poll: Beer. Home or Abroad.

    Beer, beer, lovely beer...

So, Thai beer is shite and we hate it, goes without saying, except for the fact that I've got used to it.

Twenty years ago, whenever I drank Chang, I was sick, stomach problems, although the Elephant Beer was fine. Now, Chang is okay, no problems - I'm drinking a Chang Draft as we speak.

But, I haven't been out of Thailand for 5 years, or Asia for 10, my beer acceptance/quality levels are probably shot to pieces. So, the question is, when you come to Thailand for hols, how does the local beer taste compared to your usual, or when you pop back to the US, blighty, etc, how does the beer taste? Better, or do you long for a Leo?

    Please advise:

    Okay, no pole...

Can't beat an ice cold Leo (small bottle so it doesn't have time to warm up) anywhere IMHO.

    I think I'll have another.

    You're missing a pole, or a poll.

Ask one of the Admin scum to correct that for you.

Personally I was quite surprised at how crap Leo tastes after coming back for a holiday. To think I drank that quite happily for nearly 6 years.

Nothing compares with English beer, so it's a moot point.

And before anyone says it; Fizzy treacle (Belgian beer) can fek off.

Better point, and this is the kinda thing I'm thinking about.

What, northern beer stuff, or Fosters

I'm wondering, if I went back to London and had a night out, would the cans of Red Stripe taste as good as they used to? Is the Guinness better, cause I never seem to get a really top pleasing pint here...

I've never even tried a Leo in over 20 years of coming here, nearly half of that living here. Is it like Archa (I like that), or Chang Draft (I like that too, so I think I'll have another 500ml can - bet I get pissed quicker than you!)

No, I'm sure it was Chang DD, on Samui 20 years ago. 3 bottles for 100 baht, the guy used to wheel his coolbox into the Green Mango about 1am. It was Chang, wasn't it? I felt sure it was.

English beer is quite good, forget the stereotypes.

I think it's the only reason Brits go home after their holidays. There's fek all else appealing about the place.

I have pleasant memories about having a Beamish Red, or a Guiness, or that other beer that comes in green that I can't quite remember the name of, but at 1 pound a pint at happy hour, was quite nice.
Some people think it don't, but it be.

    Caffreys, that's the one.

Not sure the spelling is right. Used to get up early after a night shift to get to the happy hour in some pub in Bristol. On rare occasions would make it to the Jazz pub on the weekends with my flatmate, Wendy. We were both big Sinatra fans.

I first came here in 91 or 92, after uni. I think Chang have got it wrong, they've fuked up their dates... How about Thai Elephant, DD, do you remember that? Maybe, I'm thinking about a couple of years later when I came back, rather than the original time. Mushrooms, KPG, it's all a time warped bluuuuuur...

Leo is the beer of choice for poor farangs, who can normally be found sitting outside the mom and pop store pretending that they have a life.

I used to be like that too, but now it's okay. Has the beer changed or me; Janda, can you try a Chang and see the effect please - if you're sick I know it's me, good lad.
(I'll give you the 35 baht next time you're in Bkk.)

Chang started off in association with Carlsberg, if I'm not mistaken.

    Till Chang screwed them over.
