    Your favourite Noodle Soup joint..

    What is it and why?

Is it served by the fossil-like bint in some filth hole half way down the soi...or at the other end of the spectrum, in a restaurant of fine dining, in which the chopsticks are made from ming dynasty ceramics...

How do you like them..spicy, sour, sweet, salty..?

Do you opt for the 'pee-sed' where they put all the egg and stuff in it..?

I'm looking into a noodle franchise..

The most popular seems to be the 'Chai see (4)..

    Any other suggestions??

    Gracious

    Mmmmmm..Noodles...

I am a regular at one off the route 22 heading out of udon, spotlessly clean, double shop house. My favorite, yellow noodles with roast pork. Nice people and excellent food, they also do other dishes than noodles.
    Only 30 bt!

I remember paying 20 bt on the side of the road when I first came to live BKK 18 yrs ago, so a 50% increase over that period has got to make noodles the bargain of the century.

I like mine with Red pork, then add my own chilli sauce, dried chillis, or a nice tom yum stock.

The best one I use is outside Family Mart at the mouth of Thong Lor 17.

In Bangkok there is a very famous place in a sub soi of Soi Ari called Kwiteo Bok. Always full at lunchtime.
In Pattaya there is late night Bar Mee stand on South Pattaya road a few blocks above 3rd road toward Sukhumvit - delicious moo dang.

Yeh, Chinese style- very good. Do they serve the proper red vinegar with it? I don't see it much in this country.

Around here is no culinary Mecca, but there is a pretty good duck noodle place on the Trakhan rd- and duck noodle soup is my fave. They do some nice snacks too, like jerky & duck tongue, some home made pickles too.

Khao soy ❘ ข้าวซอย ❘ Northern-style chicken curry soup, here along a small set of sateh.

A good destination for some of these 'surplus' roosters nextdoor.

Why not? Looks like it's a Lao dish as well.... isaan is somewhere in the middle of CM and Laos, so give it a try. Some restaurants here in Chiang mai are very popular, with people waiting for a free table, and surely every farang that has been to Thailand remembers that dish.

    Fom Wikipedia:

Khao soi or Khao soy is a Burmese-influenced dish served in northern Laos and northern Thailand, especially Luang Prabang and Chiang Mai, respectively. Khao soi was first introduced to northern Laos from Burma and then from northern Laos it continued to spread to northern Thailand. In northern Laos, there are two common versions of Lao khao soi. One version of Lao khao soi is a soup that uses a coconut milk-based curry sauce with deep-fried crispy egg noodles, pickled cabbage, lime juice, meat, and other ingredients. The other popular version of Lao khao soi is a soup made with wide rice noodles, coarsely chopped pork, tomatoes, fermented soy beans, chillies, shallots, and garlic, then topped with pork rind, bean sprouts, chopped scallions, and chopped cilantro. In northern Thailand, there is a similar dish known as Thai khao soi, which is a soup-like dish made with deep-fried crispy egg noodles, pickled cabbage, shallots, lime, nam prik pao, and meat in a curry-like sauce containing coconut milk. The curry is similar to that of yellow or Massaman curries but is thinner. Some recipes use Massaman curry in the dish. Though northern Lao people have a special way of preparing this dish, different versions of it can be found at Lao restaurants. It is popular as a street dish eaten by Thai people, though not frequently served in Western Thai restaurants.
Traditionally, the dish was served with beef or chicken rather than pork, as it is Chinese Muslim in origin.

Note: "though not frequently served in Western Thai restaurants"... If only you could sell that from a streetcart in Europe, at lunchtime, at 10 times the Thai price...

There is a beauty on the Nong Khai road out of Udon , about 5Kms up for the Tesco ring road junc on the North side ,, its a beef franchise job been running about 3 years if my memory serves me right ,, and the reason apart from the good big bowl of it you get the missus says is because the Thais love to be able to drive up and park next to the table as opposed to walking from parking in town,, I know I can never get me pickup to go past this one without a stopover
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

In Melbourne and Sydney... Best SEA food I've seen outside SEA actually. Though London and Paris (never been to America) have good stuff as well.
