    oven controls

I do like my homemade bread. I had one of those cheapie gas stove/ovens while living in Phuket. Control of the temp on the oven was brutal. The main reason was the heat indicator was mounted to the glass of the oven door.

Any air passage or breeze cooled the glass on the door thereby reducing the indicator - direct thermal conductance of the glass.

I tried the bottle regulation and the 5 min check methods while trying to bake bread. Neither worked worth a crap.

Bread baking requires some moderate temp controls to maintain consistency. So, I was on a mission. The ultimate solution was to buy an oven thermometer which I hung on the rack just behind the glass.

Turns out the thermometer did not register the same swings as the glass mounted indicator. I had been overcorrecting using the indicator and the bread was tough as shoe leather.

The hanging thermometer worked pretty good and was a cheap solution. The oven varied about 10 - 20 deg. C which was manageable. Getting used to establishing the correct temp took a few minutes of trial and error then I marked the position of the knob and had a basic starting/warmup point.

    And?

We bought the built-in one that was on sale. It's still in the packing though as the kitchen won't be ready for a while.

I bought the Fagor oven a month or so ago and then a Fagor hood and hob which were also on offer (HomePro). Like yours, mine is waiting for the rest of the kitchen to catch up.

I had to have an oven, I looked in every shop here in Phetchabun and all I could find was the one that looks like those in most pics, the one with 3 burners on top with the oven below, There were 4 different brands, but were all the same with a manual controlled oven burner, every shop had a different brand name but were identical in makeup, Singer was the one I bought, kind of a pain in the ass til I got used to using it to bake bread, Cakes, and beef roasts but got somewhat easier as I went along.
But every house I have been in in Thailand the gas bottle was under a cabinet inside the house, Well mine is outside the wall and is brought into the house thru a hose hooked up to the stove, it has been done this way every where I have ever lived, would have been quite a chore to have had the tank inside the house if you used a large tank as it done is some places where you had a 100 to 500 gallon tank.
I do not think an electric oven would be to good a deal here and our electric service is not that dependable and it is very unstable at best, Continuously variable between 175 and 240 volts.
My oven is OK but just barely able to attain the temp needed to salt roast beef [needs at least 400 deg. F.] but it does work.

The hob is a PCS8-G2W which is a 3 gas burner about 80cms wide with a glass top.

Hood is a CFC-90X which is a 90cms wide unit.

The two together from HomePro were just under 20k.

I haven't tried either unit yet so can't comment on how good they are - I really just buy for price and looks.

    Sorry, lousy picture:

It has temperature control and a control for top, bottom or both heater elements, and fan and rotary spit. And a minute timer - ding!

Sounds like just the ticket. Will it hold that 21 pound turkey next Thanksgiving?!?

Just kidding. Is the fan for convection cooking or just to remove excess steam?

The one I bought (and have yet to install) has a "steam evacuation" fan and I'm not real sure what the purpose of that is. Crisper pizza, maybe?

I'm fairly sure the fan is to aid cooking - spreading the heat around. I wish I'd bought it as soon as I saw it, but the g/f wanted to find something even better. Pussy-whipped again!

    .
Yeah, we got one in Thai and I downloaded an English version, but our manual is rather generic and covers a whole range of models.

Is yours the same model as mine? The one we bought seems to only be for sale in Eastern Europe. I'm wondering how they made their way to Thailand....

Dumping a discontinued model or what?

I went to Home Pro today and found that they have half a dozen of them on sale at the same price (11,900?). They still have the lesser model (no fan, four programs as opposed to six) on sale for 16,500 baht.

It counts down so frigging fast you can see it moving! F*ck me, why can't they get this stuff right? Bunch of incompetent morons. Pointless taking it back to the shop - waste of time and diesel.. From what I can gather here it seems that a combination of gas and electric might be the best choice for my wife. Gas for frying because its cheap and easily available in Thailand. And a tabletop electric oven for things like baking cakes which need a constant temperature. She has been in Australia for over 10 years now and makes the best pavlovas!
