    Kanom Wan - Thai sweets

    "Kanom Tian" is home-made with coconut, rice-flour and sugar, a drop of rice-wine is an optional refinement I successfully experimented with.
    It's a communal activity before one of the many festivities in the local temple:


    The riceflour dough is formed into balls around around a coconut/brown sugar core, then coated with oil:


    A banana-leaf section is neatly folded to a pyramid with the sweet filling:



    The shapes are steamed for about 20 minutes:

    Stroller, you make me miss my hometown. Anyway, next weekend I will visit my family in Phichit, if I'm lucky, they would do something like this. (Errr.. I guess not)

    Yeah, I love that stuff

    My mother-in -law makes them on special occasions and I always pig out on it

    When is the next holiday ? Bugger not until Loy Krathong.

    I love these, especially the green ones with banana. Some have a very dry centre, which is almost savoury - not sure what they are.

    I asked my mum and the sister-in-law if we could do that but the answere was "no". So, no piccies of Kanom Wan from me.
