Smile Seaside Restaurant - Soi Chaiyapoon

Thought I would start my posting here (post No 2) with a reccomendation for a reasonably priced restaurant.

'Seaside' on Soi Chaiyapoon offers good Thai & English food.

The decor is lacking (lime green walls?), at least they were in Dec 2008.

I consider this to be a 'cheap place to eat' serving good food.

    Anyone else been here?

If you visit, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

My favourite here: Phat Nua Nam Man Hoi. (Beef in Oyster sauce)

The original Seaside restaurant is off Soi 7 in Pattaya, down the Beach Rd end. Close to the Globetrotter. I agree, decent and cheap grub- you eat there and wonder why you bother paying considerably more at other places that are no better. I recommend their liver, bacon & onions.

Soi Chaiyapoon is a bit of a cheap eating haven (incidentally, isn't Seaside on Soi Xcyte, which comes diagonally off Chaiyapoon?). Also there is Crazy Daves, Neeroys, the Continental & Canterbury Tales. For fish n chips though, you can't beat Neeroys, which is nearby. 100 bht, and they are very good (much better than Seasides). I pay 20 bht extra for mushy peas.

    Thanks for your welcome!

No I am not connected or have any financial interest in this restaurant, I'm English, the restaurant is (to the best of my knowledge) Thai owned.

I used this place frequently during a 3 week trip, whilst staying at the 'Chaiyapoon Inn' and no I do not have any financial connection with this place.

Fully understand that some people use forums to promote thier businesses and or interests. If I did this, I would make this clear.

Hope this clarifys this matter for you!!

Because the food was bloody woeful. that lack of quality will work on the Russkies and other perverts in Patts but up here we got our standards you know.

It's great to be on forum with 'character'
A friend of mine (also on this forum) explained it was a little different here!
Very refreshing! Quick pass me a Chang.

As a newbie I don't yet know what 'green blobs' are but assume they
    are beneficial? Thanks!

    Looking forward to more posting.

P.S. Would you like a Hotel review for the 'Chaiyapoon Inn' Pattaya?

And yes the food is not bad.

    I take this statement back.

The roast beef I had a few weeks ago was in-edible.

Gravy tasted like dishwater, as did everything else on the plate as it was all smothered. The Beef was so tough I was still chewing three minutes later.

    Disgusting!

Well I was in Pattaya today as I needed a new bumbag, damn I hate markets, went to made in Thailand on second road, nice young lady offered me 180baht for a bumbag, as I was quickly looking through them to decide which one a Thai guy came and quoted the price as 200baht, I just walked off to the next stall and bought one for 150baht, I really can't be bothered haggling over what is basically junk, anyway I then went to seaside restaurant for breakfast.

The most expensive is 80baht, the menu says you get 2 sausages but my plate only had 1, still pretty good value though.

    coffee and orange juice included.

Toast and jam, I still don't believe that a fried tinned tomato is a traditional part of the great British breakfast, and when did roast potatoes become an ingredient of a breakfast meal, still, quite nice anyway.

As you can see by the lime green 2 tone walls, it is most likely Thai owned.

I think that bacon is a short cut to a heart attack, the potatoes look half cooked and the coffee I think is Thai coffee and however much milk you use is like something you paint your fence with.

Apart from that it does suit a few but there are better options just down the road a little, be careful though if your in too early and the crazy guy is drunk you may get a mouth full.

Or the Canterbury is ok if you are a reader as I am is a useful place for a book and coffee & is always busy.

I thought this restaurant was a great deal. I liked the air conditioned half so you don't have to sweat it out on a hot day. The waitresses are on you in moments, foods served quickly and hot, after you finish they bring you over a cold towel to wipe down. Not too many Thai owned restaurants with good and efficient service. Thai food was good and not that much more than the food stalls in the dust and heat. Loved the fish & chips for 110 B, liver & onions same price with choice of spuds , veggies and gravy. Deserts were good to and drinks reasonably priced.
I probably ate there 30 times in the last 6 months - great value (colors are a bit much). And no I don't know the owner or have any interest in the shop but I drive in from Jomtien so it must be good.

A Friend Of Mine Was Bigging This Place Up So I Gave It A Try And Was Impressed To Begin With.you Will Always Get Large Portions And Most The Food Is Nice Enough And Cheap. Having Been There Several Times In The Last Month Ive Noticed The Service Become Shocking If The Boss Is Not Around.yesterday I Asked If All The Red Wine Was Coming Out Of The
Fridge As Red Wine Should Not Come Out Freezing,i Told Her That Its Only White You Need To Chill, Her Reply Was To Say All Her Other Customers Didnt Have A Problem.if The Boss Is There You Get A Nice
Swadikab If He's Not You Get A Fat Girl Who Doesnt Talk, Has Face Like A Smacked Arse And Just Drops A Menu On The Table...

Im Not After Being Weighted On Hand And Foot But A Smile Or Hello Woudnt Go A Miss...

I Think This Is Were Most Thai Restaurants Fall Down, the General Service In Pattaya Is Very Bad. My Only Conclusion Is That
The Boss Does Not Allow Them To Keep Tips So They Have A, I Dont Give
    A Shit Attitude

Red wine is supposed to be served at room temperature, sadly room temperature there is like 80', bit too warm I think.

Red wine should be slightly chilled in Thailand. It is so hot and humid here keeping it refrigerated shouldn't be a problem as it will rise to a perfect temperature within minutes.

You'll find this is the case all over Thailand unless you're getting a massage or some other service. I think it is perhaps that eating in Thailand is a very functional thing and eating out is done often from noodle stands to restaurants. Thus Thai people don't focus as much on the service as the quality of the food but if you find a place that has both then you've done well.
I will overlook poor service if the meal is good but these days I am happier to be left alone as over keen staff can be a nuisance.

    Wine And Service

I Can Understand The Country Is Hot But If You Go And Into A Nice Hotel The Wine Does Not Come Out Freezing Cold, from A Business Point Of View If I Was The Owner And Someone Told Me In England That Noodles
Should Be Served Warm Not Cold My Response Would Not Be Well My
Other Customers Have Not Got Problem With It.

I Know Before You Say It This Is Thailand And Go Home If You Dont Like
It .. I Love Thailand,it Just Frustrates The Hell Out Of Me When Regardless Of Service They Either Dont Sell It Well Enough Or Give A Dam.

Example Some Drunk Spunk Parked His Bike Up Next To Mine And Left A
Scratch On My Rental Bike,(new Honda ) Everyone In Town Told Me
It Would Cost 10,000 + To Replace The Front End Of The Bike Which I Refused To Do !

Went To An Old Burnt Out Garage And Showed The Engineer And Left The Bike In His Good Hands .. Within An Hour He Had Cleaned The Whole Bike And Polished It With A Scratch Removal Cream.when I Asked
How Much Was The Damage He Charged Me 80 Baht !

If The Rental Guy Had Seen This Scratch Before He Would Have Raped
My Wallet, So The Guy Saved Me A Ton And Was Just Happy To Carry On About His Day !

There Are Good And Bad Everywhere And Some People Talk About The Thai Way ... I Think Part Of This Is True ... I Think Part Of It Is Bullshit , I Think They Have A Bad Attitude ... An Like You Say If You Find A Few Gems Then You Keep Going Back To Them At Present Im Stuggling To Find
More Than A Couple In Pattaya !

A nice hotel does not serve main courses at the 100baht range, especially roast dinners

It's around 3 to 4,000baht for all new body panels for the complete bike.
