GoW's Birthday Dinner @ Oishi on Thonglor

Well, seeing as it is GoW's 27th birthday tomorrow, I took her to Oishi to get fat. Wally will tell me that Oishi isn't very good, but seeing as neither of us know bugger all about Japanese food, it works for us.

The first thing we had to contend with today was the weather. It was raining cats & dogs, but living in a popular spot like I do, we didn't have to wait long.

Now, I had a lovely Sunday buffet lunch at the Sheraton earlier, so I wasn't exactly starving this evening, but I made an effort and started with a selection of sushi, some kimchi, fried tofu and potato salad.

GoW had some sushi, raw fish, offal and some seaweed.

We had green tea, but I didn't put any ice in it, so it looks a bit crap.

Next up was GoW's cooked stuff. This smelt great (fried peppers always do) and it tasted pretty good too.

This is how an expert eats their shrimps.

I had some dim sum whilst I was waiting for my kyoza to arrive (which they had infact forgotted).

I was still waiting for my kyoza, so I thought I'd try out the macro function on the camera. Sadly, there were no bugs around, but the kimchi looked pretty grim close-up.

Horay! The kyoza arrived and I had already prepared some seafood sloppy stuff (it looked like puke, but tasted ok) and some cucumber and carrots picked out from the potato salad. I was feeling pretty stuffed already.

The kyoza weren't all that good, sadly. The 'skin' was too chewy.

In the meantime, GoW had fetched one of these. We weren't sure if was going to be sweet or savory. It actually tasted like snot. Not a winner for me, but those Thais will eat anything.

To finish, GoW filled up a plate with some fruit. The sa-la were pretty good. Kinda like pineapple, but nice. The pear was a bit tasteless (like French pears). After a few pieces I was ready to do a 'Di' and puke it all up again, as I was fekkin' stuffed.

Total bill for two - just under 1200B.

    Thank you, Marmite the Dog!

We agree to have these kind of food once a year. We both just don't want to get too fat.

Doesn't look like you can get fat from this kind of food.

It's 499 B each, plus VAT, plus 10% service charge.

Not too bad for an all-you-can-eat buffet.

    What could I do?

I had a client take me out for lunch and I had promised to take GoW wherever she wanted. Life is tough sometimes, but you just have to knuckle down and get on with it.

KW, your spelling has deteriorated since you have been in OZ, or maybe its the sucking of large quantities red wine.

    Thanks to all of you.

My family don't remember my birthday. Normally dad, mum and the brother will call me early morning to say happy birthday but they forgot.

Actually I don't care but they usually do but this year they don't so a bit upset but that's life.

I also got a present from William too.

    Thanks!
