Restaurants and food places to boycott and the reasons why..add yours here.

The Old Dutch on Soi 23 Sukhumvit
    Reasons:
    1) Absolutely poor service when they know you're not a big tipping tourist, the half arsed way in which you are handed a menu when they finally get to you.
    2) Chicken meat in the chicken salad crawling with minature cockroaches (baby ones), and I only discovered this after I'd eaten some of the chicken.

    Suda Restaurant, Soi 14 Sukhumvit
    Reasons:
    1) See number 1 above
    2) Finding out that they microwave many of the non-fried dishes

    Bukhara's Indian, Nana
    Reasons:
    1) Non-Indians are seen as second class customers, and the staff will bend over backwards to show you so.
    2) Use of very low quality minced meat in their lamb paneers (kebabs) so you're removing lumps from your teeth very often, not even an undisturbed bite is possible without having to do this.

    Al- Hussein, Soi 3 Nana
    Reasons:
    1) A gradual decline of general standards, reflected in the use of microwaves to re-heat curries now on display in a huge glass cabinet, rather than cooking them fresh in a kitchen. A large number of regulars have given this former decent eaterie a miss for this reason alone.
    2) An emphasis on 'taking care of their own' has come into big prominence here lately. A result of Islamaphobia quite possibly.

Food court at Tops Supermarket, Central Lat Phrao
    Reasons:
    1) Two dead flies in my massaman curry. I showed the lady and she curtly removed them and offered my dish back to me. Complaining would have been futile so I just left.
    2) On another occasion prior to that, a long thick black hair was amongst a pad thai dish my companion had ordered. She took it back to the vendor and to cover up such a fuck-up, they all burst out laughing. My companion, who was UK educated, Thai, so therefore a million times above the average Thai in terms of outlook, gave them a tirade of abuse that soon shut them up.

More to come. and no, I'm not deliberately going round restaurants creating a 'scene', why not add your horror stories here too.

Funny, my first thought was that that's exactly what you do.

The first noodle stall on the left past the 7-11 in Ban Na Rap, coming from Ban Na Luang, Nan province.
The sisters from Kon Khaen who run the place are friendly enough, but the portions are tiny. My mate and myself had to order a second portion each, of Pat Seou Gai, at full price (20 Baht) to fill our stomachs.
Very little chicken amongst the noodles, too.

Stroller, can you give us a Google Earth .kmz file with the exact location of that noodle stall? I want to make sure I miss it on my next visit to Nan.

Another place to avoid is the Rim-Nam Karaoke and short-time bar opposite the funeral site in Ban Lai.
The glasses were dirty and the local cops who frequent the place made sure none of the 'waitresses' joined our table for a lady's drink.

So I'm not invited round for tea then?

That Som-tam stall outside Thermae with the ancient katoye with filthy fingers is to be avoided. We had to ask him first for spoons, then for forks, then for another plate to share the food. The Som-tam was so hot, I couldn't eat it, that's after I ask him for 'pet nit noi'.
    Overcharged us as well.

Most places in Hua Hin have diabolical service except for the Hilton.

I find the Old Dutch to be pretty good. Maybe they only discriminate against Asians there?

Have you tried the Fulay? I think the service there is excellent.

My only horror story involves O'Reilley's Silom. Last time there a cockroach crawled out of my salad. (At least I didn't eat it.) I trapped it under an ash tray and showed the waitress. She whisked the plate away, but it took over a half an hour to have my meal replaced. I encouraged Ms. B to go ahead and eat hers, but she declined so hers was cold by the time mine arrived.

    What's a 'Fulay'?

BTW, I'm back home now, so I'll have to wait another 3 or 4 years to try another other Hua Hin suggestions.

Guest house near the Hilton with a fine restaurant on the ground floor and a branch across the road. Good food, good service, nice presentation. The guest house itself has been there since the late 80's or early 90's.

    All this negativity...
    Here a positive recommendation:
The Pan-Tip restaurant and guesthouse in Ban Bung is the best and only one in the area:
Great food (if you like fish), very reasonably priced and frequented by the sort of locals you'd want to be seen with. Spent 850 bth, including tip, for 6 of us. The plate of mixed 'hors-d'oevres' is highly recommended.
Clean, spacious rooms with private baths and Tele for 200bth.
I suggest to host the next TD meeting there.

I have breakfast at Old Dutch almost every weekend. The service is quite nice and food is fine also. I've no problem about service or food at all.

There's one girl that she took care of me (us) well but I haven't seen her there for a month, maybe she's left.

I wish you didn't mean the one we went this morning. It's shite! Both service and food.

Bukhara's has the best Indian food in Thailand after Rang Mahal. I wish they'd open a branch in Pattaya.

But, maybe that's where you went and maybe you had a bad experience. Sure it was the Fulay? What went wrong?

I've been staying at the Fulay and dining there now and then for over a decade and I've always been impressed with how nice and attentive the staff is and how good the food is. Obviously, most of their customers are European, so they prepare their food for that palate, but, IMHO they do a great job.

There's a little noodle shop just down the road, we never eat there. The owner and my Mother-in-law fell out years ago and are still not talking. Dont know what the food or service is like though
