    Wally's Japanese Restaurant Guide

Japanese cuisine is the finest in the world, in my opinion. Many dishes are suited to western tastes, but given that the Japanese are perfectionists, every thing is simply cooked to perfection - and presented so beautifully, it's almost a shame to it eat. Each dish is a piece of art.
I eat Japanese food quite often, and if you are looking for a place to eat it, then I hope this thread can help you..

Otooya is the name of one of the best Japanese restaurants chains in BKK, and the one i frequent is at the J-Avenue complex in Thonglor Soi 13 (Sukhimvit 55). Otooya use only organic vegetables, and you can get a set lunch or dinner for 150 - 250baths similar the the one in the picture above. It's always crowed with japanese customers, so be prepared to wait a little while to get in..night time prices are the same..

Seoul is the name of a Yakiniku restaurant (korean barbeque) 200 metres on the right, going down Sukhumvit 55 (soi thonglor). They do a great cheap lunch bento of barbequed beef, pork, or chicken for 89baths. Very reasonable, and delicious. Lunch is served between 11.30am and 2pm, and like many japanese restaurants, are much more expensive at night. The bento knid of looks like this one >>

Sushi. I have a few places that I eat sushi at, one of them being a small new restaurant in the Nihonmura complex, on thonglor soi 13 called Goto Reto. They have a lunch set for 200baths and quality there is second to none, but the quantity is a little small.
If you want sushi, and lots of it for value for money, there is an all you can eat sushi place (11.30am - 4pm) in 55th Plaza on sukhumvit soi 55 for 200baths. They have japanese chefs, and the quality is surprisingly good. I don't know the name of this place, but you go up the stairs, walk straight past a japanese retaurant called 'Zen' (yuk!), past the stair-well, and you will see some red laterns outside a resatuarant on your left side. That's it!

    Stay tuned for more....

Are there any Otooya branches near me?

Remember, we don't all live on Thong Lor.

I would like to mention the Ramen restaurant that I eat at most lunchtimes. Its called Tarou Bo and for 170-180 baht you can get absolutely stuffed. It's also got a massive selection of Japanese comics. It's quite wierd seeing all these grown men reading comics at lunchtime, but the Japanese are a bit strange; just look at what effect they've had on Wally!

    Nice work BTW.

Yesterday Jeng (my mate) and I had dinner at Fuji in BigC, Pattaya Nua. Good food but I can't eat much.

Tona spicy slad. I know, it's not like japanese food much.

    Here is, Saba steak.

Here's Bento set but the picture before we started to eat, it's shite then look at this one instead.

Boy! You eat a lot for a wittle girl, GoW........you must poo big

Fuji and Oishi, and the other larger japanese chain restaurants aren't the best places to eat japanese food IMO, but as you said, they cater a lot for thai taste-buds, so many of the dishes can't really be considered japanese..

I remember when I was a boy, and you used to drive me down to the markets for sushi. Those were the days goddess...

Saba is mackeral by the way, and many japanese restaurants have a sabayaki set for 100-200baths ( though it's not usually served with vegetables like in the photo above, but rather salad, rice, and miso soup)

If you ever bring the family down to thonglor for lunch AO; we can do mackeral and beer...
