| One thing I miss about home would be the fast food and snacks... Good cookies (I think some of you call them biscuits) Hostess donuts... Nachos.. Beef jerky... But Guess those would be considered to be more like snacks.. Thai fast food i think would be noodles... American would be Macdonold's, Taco Bell, Carl's Jr.. and that case would still have to go with American.. To name a few

| Both are great - American and Thai. The big difference to me is how the are made in respect of a clean procedure. I rather go to a US chain than to one of the street vendors. But this does not mean that McDonald's for instance is more clean - it gives me a cleaner feeling. Without this I would prefer the Thai fast food. There is more variation than with those boring hamburgers - and mostly - less calories. |

| I get on OK with them both really, although I prolly do more Thai (then again I live here, so that figures). I've never had food poisoning here, beyond a minor dose like you can get anywhere. Thai favourites- noodle soups- cheap, light and nutricious fried noodles- ditto Pad kha khaeow - great when in the mood Moslem style fried chicken- nice, esp. with som tam thai Western- Hamburgers- great when in the mood. Thai does some 'orrible burgers. Decent sandwiches- bit expensive here Steak n' kidney pie- yum Chips/fries- nice when done right I think on the whole, Thai/Chinese food is better than western. But, growing up in the west, chances are you're always going to need, and enjoy, your regular fix of western stodge.

There is a choice of snack foods available here but no where near the variety back in the US. after a few years the snack aisle at any super markets is a challenge to find anything real interesting. Little place near my old home made a char-broiled 150 gram burger topped with pastrami and swiss cheese about a half a tomato, a pile of lettuce onions, pickles and heaped with mustard & mayo. A full course meal, starch, veggies dairy and protein served with enough salt, fat and crap to make it a joy to get down your neck. Served with thick cut fries (chips to you funny talkin folk) fried crisp on the outside; fluffy, steaming potato on the inside. Washed down with a chocolate Malted shake that gave you a headache to suck up through a straw. Fast food to slow the ol ticker down a taste. Or maybe a half pound of thinly sliced sirloin grilled with onions, peppers and a tomatoey sauce served on a 12" onion baguette with provolone Cheese, sweet & hot Peppers drippin sauce down your elbow. Here? a hot bowl of Noodles with pork and savory broth washed down with a lime juice... let me think about this a minute ...

| ^they're not But them pepperidge Farm cookies can make a grown man act a kid for a few minutes. I scored some Milano Orange Cookies yesterday ate the whole damn pack. That's my cookie fix for the week. For me snack foods are something I can put salt and hot sauce on I do get a hankerin for a sweet now and again think I tried some of those bake 'n Bite things over New years, they're OK. You go into Rim Ping pick up some of the pepperidge farm cookies when they're in stock. 160 Baht for 7 Oz of cookies; a rip, but worth every satang on rare occasions. |

| I have to say, the McDonald Burger costs a little less here if you can find a McDonalds. The dill pickle makes it better than Thai fast food. But the cookies, Imperial Vanilla Rings butter cookie does the trick at 25 baht a box! Western fast food is better, but depending where you are if you can get a good slice of pizza, a Chinese eggroll w/ hot mustard, a potatoe knish which I haven't had in 25 years. Pork rinds are better in Thailand, but who the hell wants to eat pork rinds? |
