...as near to a perfect evening as possible: full moon, balmy weather, riverside table, delicious meal, excellent wine and competent, friendly service...

...After a tour of the lobby to admire the seasonal decorations, we headed to the Bamboo Bar for pre-dinner cocktails...

...3 JWB doubles later and a quick wobble brought us to our riverside table at Ciao, the Oriental's seasonal Italian restaurant. The menu is limited, but included dishes I'd not previously tried:

...we started with the "crunchy egg" and deep-fried, lightly battered lobster tail (a sort of Italian tempura): both flavorful...

...for mains, we chose the rack of lamb and seared tuna...the former was served perfectly pink and succulent; the latter a tad bland despite the delicious grilled capsicum sauce...

...for dessert, we chose the tiramsu and two scoops of ice cream (amaretto and stracciatella)...both satisfying and a fitting end to our meal...

All things considered, that's good value. I reckon a comparable meal in Europe, North America, or Aus/NZ would cost two or three times as much.

Rubbish! Check your currency converter. For NZ anyway, if you paid $350 for that, it would be at Cincin or Sky City. Definitely not $700 or $1000.

It's an ostentatious OTT price.

The lamb does look good though

that said, for 8,000 for a hotel meal that is not rated by Michelin stars is a bit expensive, in Paris you would have got at least 1 or 2 stars Michelin for 200 Euros for 2 including glass of fine French wines.

Those 5 stars hotel boutique restaurants in Thailand are really traps for rich snobby Thais,

Looks really nice TC, as one would expect at such an esteemed establishment steeped in history in that location.

And $250.00?, pfffftt!. Billy Idol racked up about 100 times that (mostly in damages) in a couple of days before the Oriental called in the Military to shoot him with a tranquilizer gun, strap him to a stretcher, and get him - along with half the whores of Patpong and all the Coke in Bangkok - out of the Presidential Suite. They probably don't like to talk about that though

Yes, that's why, for this non-native speaker, your stated 1500 didn't compute.
Also for this non-native speaker, I'm struggling to understand how simple maths is a language, and not a numeracy, issue.
Lu, of course jumps on the bandwagon and shows how he too confuses numeracy with linguistics... or maybe the thicko also thought that 1500 is a multiple of 550? Probably the latter. He's not very smart.
