Majestically enthroned amid the vulgar herd
Good trip I think. Enjoy the food.
Looks like Sam's Luncheonette got one of the old Victoria Station cars. highway 1/101 ends at a tiny place in BC
where we could turn around or head off down a dirt road. We asked how far to a petrol station and were told "about 45 minutes".

Obviously the winerys are going to be part of the tour....
And, if you can find it, Dungeoness crab.....simply the best crab in the world.
^ Rubbish,
Alaskan king crab
my wife and i made this drive a few years back and she loved every part of it--especially the food. i'll try to remember to ask her to remind me of some of the places we ate.
Dad's sounds like my kind of place...
If it is still around, try the Fat Cats Cafe in Avila Beach (near Pismo Beach, south of SLO). The food there may have been delicious because we were very wet and cold after sailing around Pt. Conception, but I still have fond memories of that place.
^ you sit there with a plate of dungeness and ill sit with the king crab legs listening to you flaff around over tiny pieces of meat and crunching your teeth on the shell
We did this trip 4 years ago while researching and visiting universities for the kids. Stay in Big Sur for a night at the Ventana Inn and spa, great restaurant as well. We ate in two of the places. One is Half Moon Bay and one in San Luis. Both were very nice indeed. Great memories of that trip. I even did a thread on it...
^^ I've never tried it tbh. Lucky you having it in your backyard.
All crab is good crab anyway when you add curry powder
Poo Pat Pong Karee (sp)
^ One of my favourite meals and I agree with you Dill, Alaskan King Crab or sometimes known as Nova Scotia Deep Sea Crab is the best crab I have tasted.
Nova Scotia Deep Sea crab not the same as the Alaska King Crab...
So what is that? About a twelve hour drive, in all?
Are you going in a campervan or car Tom?
Be nice to do that in an old Yankee muscle car. Ant would be well jel
This site has some nice ones and the caravan from Breaking Bad, no pink Cadillac though

The Camaro SS looks sweet, but this would be more apt heading to San Francisco
I can drive ten minutes to a local fishing dock drop a pot and pull a ton out of the sound. Nothing like a fresh dungeness you caught yourself. Only thing I have to do is stop off at the store afterwards and get the cold beer to go along with it.
Maybe you were drunk when you at those crabs because they are nothing alike in flavor. The Atlantic variety you mentioned it more like snow crab then Alaskan king mate. Nothing alike mate.
...no, only focusing on the area north of San Francisco as we'll be staying at Sea Ranch...
...coincidentally, I owned an R5 (LeCar in the US) while living in Algeria: solid little economy car that later got me from Barcelona to Venice and back...
