    Creperie: Paragon Ground Floor

...towards the back of the building. A light lunch that was satisfying, but not particularly interesting. The onion soup had all the right ingredients, but ultimately lacked depth of flavor. SD's tuna steaks were good, particularly with the accompanying lime-herb sauce, while my scrambled eggs on a crepe with smoked salmon, mushrooms, tomatoes and cheese were an enjoyable combo. Desserts were variations of strawberry/whipped cream crepes: light and flavorful. The restaurant was out of red, so I made do with a forgettable rose. That lapse, particularly within near walking distance of the Paragon's well-stocked wine shop, probably means we won't return: a bkk restaurant needs a more efficient business model in such a competitive environment. B1,800 with 2 glasses of wine and black tea...

Looks like a good lunch, especially that tuna.

Best crepes are from a stall outside the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam- never tasted anything so good and comforting in the autumn chill. Purple Haze appetizer obligatory

I do like a well presented and tasty French onion soup. I guess this isn't the place to find it.

Have you found a good one in your travels tomcat?

overpriced crap from Paragon, but when you are stuck in Thailand, what else can you do ?

those places usually lack in taste, food is blant, and even the dish dressing is tacky

I don't know how I put off for years with those crappy restaurants, not worth it !!!

...I'm growing accustomed to those who haven't eaten in the restaurants I report on to add their negative opinions of the restaurants/food quality/service/prices and locations......one example is the poster who suggests that eating in a restaurant called "Creperie" is pretentious (though the menu is entirely in English and Thai) and another decides that all restaurants in the Paragon (from his experience, I assume):

of course its overpriced crap in paragon, just like it is in all the other sterile shopping malls, where a large proportion of the meals served up in these oh so inviting restaurants opened by investors with more of a taste for the latest trend than for good food are pre prepared in some industrial unit in khlong toei and all the "chef" in his black shirt, facemask and cutting edge hairdo has to do is cut open the plastic bag, whack the pre measured and pre flavoured ingredients into a microwave or if you're lucky a wok and and then arrange it on the plate to copy the arrangement on the instruction sheet.

a fxcking robot could do it.

thailand is not short of decent restaurants serving excellent thai and foreign food, but most are tucked away in back streets, often on food carts, have little or no facebook or instagram presence and are not patronised by pretentious foodies in peter cardin shirts who judge a meal not so much by the taste but more by the geometric accuracy of the presentation, the price of the accompanying plonk and the absurdity of the bill.

I rather think I'd like the crepe you had Tom and one always has to attempt the french onion soup.

    Thanks for the review!
