Homeburger BKK. 4 month waiting list for reservations.

Serving only 4 - 6 burgers per night and charging only what the customer thinks the burger was worth, this guy might be on to a good idea by making himself super-exclusive.

Has anyone tried it? Is anyone going to book 4 months ahead to try it?

I do like his way of slicing the meat with the grain so that the grinder cuts across the grain. Probably need NZ cheese, though.

I'm not so sure about that. With popularity curently at a 4 month waiting list, it will definitely attract the "look at me, I'm rich" crowd. Even at 500B per burger (and the "look at me crowd would like to be seen paying 1000B or more), the guy has a minimum turnover of 3000B per night, more likely average 5000, possibly more. I guess it's a very good profit margin, so his take home pay would be circa 3000 per night. 6 nights a week, maybe 7. Not a bad monthly income for 4 hours work...say 6 hours all up including cleanup shopping etc.
He's got past the dangerous unkown-in-the-market stage is his fame will only grow.

The black guy at the exit of Nana Plaza probably made more money but he was there until 2AM. Or those roadside kiosks in Pattya.

I think BKK is at saturation point when it comes to burgers. Bad Burger gets my vote- simple burgers with top quality meat and nice beers.

Pattaya too, fuck knows how many burger joints there are now ranging in prices from about 50 Baht to 500++

I think a lot of the reason for this is anyone can either source patties made to their specs or make their own, and the rest of the required ingredients (buns, onions, tomatoes, pickles, condiments, lettuce, cheese, etc) are available anywhere and everywhere. So as there's no real kitchen skills required to cook a patty and assemble a burger, anyone with a decent location, a fridge, and a hotplate, could open a burger joint tomorrow if they wanted to and there's every chance they'd be successful. Unlike (say) an Italian or Chinese take-away where kitchen skills would most definitely be needed.

^ Any idea what happend to Just Burger?- around soi 7 Jomtien, I think. Now that place kept it simple and it was nice to chill by the sea with a beer and burger.

^Good question. I walk along Jomtien Beach Rd often and don't recall seeing it for some time now, but that's without conciously looking for it either. Will have a look in the next day or two to see if they're still in business. Meanwhile, for my money, Big Kahuna has the best burger in the Jomtien area right now.

It's gone!. Next best place I could recommend for having a burger & beer while looking out over the ocean in Jomtien would be Pirate Bay cafe, which was/is under the same American management as Big Kahuna.

Kahuna looks like picking up and well placed for high season, was a good idea to remove the bamboo curtain which made the place look like a construction site.
