    India Hut (Suriwong)

...the last time we ate here was probably a decade ago. I wasn't impressed then and, I must say, I'm not overly impressed now...the various Indian cuisines I enjoyed in the gulf were far superior in taste and freshness. That said, the meal had a few good elements: The aloo gobi, garlic naan and tandoori pomfret were fine. The bindi was a bit too overdone while the chicken biryani was over-spiced: difficult to pick out the individual spicesIndia Hut (Suriwong)-india_hut-jpgIndia Hut (Suriwong)-india_hut1-jpgIndia Hut (Suriwong)-india_hut5-jpg. We've tried a number of Indian restaurants in bkk and all had the same problems with spice mixtures obscuring flavor. Our next visit will probably be in another decade when we've totally forgotten about this one. B2,300 with 2 Asahi beers and water.

If you do fancy another Indian this decade, I would advise going to one of these 2 places.

Ayu on Ramkamhaeng Road. Under midrange in the class and decor stakes, but an extensive authentic menu - https://www.facebook.com/Ayu-Indian-...3090123187976/

Thali on Lat Krabang. A rather limited menu with no lamb/mutton dishes, but excellent food and decor (the place smells bloody lovely too!) - https://www.facebook.com/thaliladkrabang/

^ Funny you should say that.

Saw it on Eatigo. Think it's down On Nut way. Never been, but tempted.

The Avani Atrium is on Eatigo and does a good dinner buffet including quite a few Indian dishes (lamb rogon josh/nan etc) due to the clientele. Recommend it. Been there 5 or so times.

When it first opened, Indian Host on Sukhumvit 22 was excellent. It still gets good reviews, but I'm told it's nowhere near what it was.

You're best off doing a Dill and flying down to Penang for the weekend if you want proper Indian food.

i'll second this, my personal fave

agree with Tom though, Indians are a mixed lot here, somewhere between shiit and wretched in general, especially compared to say Malaya
    and vastly overpriced too

Not a great fan of Indian food but had several meals here. Mostly because was walking distance from where I lived many years ago.

If it's any consolation, there is nothing 'mixed' about Indian restaurants in Chiang Mai, ime.

    They're all shit.

The last one I went to was recommended to me by a sweaty.

I should have listened to the alarm bells.

They used to be poor in Pattaya too, but it seems that according to TD gourmands this is no longer the case.

I was at India Hut many, many years ago and was also underwhelmed.

Tops food court at Robinsons Asoke has an indian food counter, ridiculously overpriced and the food looks like it's a few days old. Never seen anyone buy food there, ever.

Ditto Food Republic at Siam Centre

Mrs Balbir's also used to have a small outlet on Silom in a shopping mall.

It also had freshness and price issues.

It may still be there, actually.

Most likely Indian food is a tough sell to Thais, and it's hard to do any more than cover the rent in such prime locations as Siam Centre if you're not selling anything to Thais.
