My girl was part of a local restaurant team that cooked for him. I met him more than once. He was a friend of Henry Rollins who dated a former girlfriend of mine.

His career meant he spent a lot of time in hotel rooms a long way from home. That’s never good.

A personal hero of mine, and I daresay many. Loved his work. Loved it!

Sorry but it is just off the cuff and true. The last time I saw Anthony he was sipping an espresso and hanging out at the sunset tavern with Henry waiting for Henrys girlfriends band to play.

Ferk...I liked him. Chatty, food-knowledgeable, good to see him smoking ciggies openly on a cooking show, the last guy I'd have thought would top himself.
I once had a daydream that I met him on the street in Thailand and invited him out for drinks leading up to me showing him my scambled eggs which he would have approved of...I reckon he'd have been great company.

He did an episode in Laos I thought was really cool. Mentioned the misty morning fog. Top notch stuff. Had more than most going for him.
Go figure. I can sometimes understand it.

My favourite celebrity chef by far, and I never once saw him cook anything. His tv shows are fantastic entertainment as he travels the globe, teams up with some locals, and dives in to the local cuisine/culture. If you haven't seen his shows, you need to. The look of genuine enjoyment on his face is priceless as he dines on the finest food that country had to offer, or scoffs down on what the local drunks turn to at 04:00 am while looking worse for wear himself.

He will be missed

Damn shame. His "Kitchen Confidential" book is a great read, even as a non-foodie. Was a fan of his travel shows also. I'm as surprised as anyone else as to why he'd top himself, seemed to have such a full life, etc. Terminal illness diagnosed.?

^He had a long association with substance abuse, including Heroin. The needle and the damage done, perhaps.

RIP Anthony Bourdain....

Was shocked when I read the local news - he was featured on the website. He seemed full of life, and a great host. I remember when he had a "casual chat" with Obama while in Vietnam. He also did a show in PI - he ate balut!

Just shows that money and/or fame isn't everything. First Kate Spade, now A. Bourdain...RIP

The last of an era of tv cooks who are likable, honest, and down to earth.
He was the last one left after Keith Floyd.

HIs laconic style made sure you didn't get aurally assaulted like the overexcited loud tossers that infest the Food Network channel nowadays.
