Do Thais have expensive Thai food?

I've only seen expensive farang food in Thailand, are there actually expensive Thai restaurants or expensive Thai foods?

    How do you define "expensive"?
Is a 200Bt pack of farang cheese expensive and a steak for 450Bt in a restaurant?
There are Thai foods in the same category, also more expensive Thai restaurant meals are on the menu.

Its true! The only expensive "Thai" food is Thai inspired cuisine cooked by farang chefs it seems, or Thai food cooked using expensive foreign ingredients. I've heard of Thai Royal Court Cuisine but haven't the faintest idea what that is.

Go into Emporiums new Emquartier, loads of nice restaurants in there. I prefer the Chinese at Four Seasons to be honest. The lemon chicken is to die for.

You can make a night out of it in there, if the Thai foods not expensive enough for you, there's a Jimmy Choo and Chanel you should unleash your Missus on whilst you marvel at the waterfall

That one is run by celebrity chef David Thompson. He first opened Thai restaurants in Australia and then London. Its his take on Thai food. Many of the ingredients he has used are not found in Thailand. Not saying its not good though.

You may find Thompson went back in history and found ancient Thai recipes that he produced to make fine culinary delights.

Yes that is true. He looked through many old 'death books' for recipes and did learn his trade in Thailand. Some Thai food critiques mention that the food (at least the one in Nahm London) as having too many flavours at once and not being authentic, but whether that is the truth or not I wouldn't know. Have never eaten there. He has also faced some criticism for mentioning coming to Thailand in order to revive the Thai food scene. Controversial character really.
