    Molly Malone's Bangkok

After closing down for a month, the mick pub on Convent Road, Silom is now back in business as Molly Malone's.

    Molly Malone's Thailand

Apparently, the third one in thailand.

    second floor.

the old screen is still here.

pool table still at the old corner.

... with a new telly by the pool table

the bar downstairs. actually the green light is so bright it hurts my eyes.

Lee Shamrock is still playing on Mondays and Thursdays.

on tap... Guinness, Heineken, Singha, Tiger, Kilkenny, Strongbow

Kilkenny is bht 230/pint. Guinness bht 220/pint. Heineken bht 150/pint. No discount card that I know of yet. prices on certain items seem to go up a bit.

    downstairs

no more secluded corner for a snog or a handjob

    sofa

i took a quick look at the menu. didn't see thai dishes anymore, only western food. i haven't eaten there yet, so can't comment. but the beer is cold.

right now, they're doing special offer on different beer on weekdays.

    mondays; singha bht 100/pint
    tuesdays; tiger bht 100/pint
    wednesdays; heineken bht 100/pint
thursdays; ladies night, cocktails and wine bht 100/drink

same staff from Irish XChange, so the service is great. Tan the shave headed barman is still a star. aircon is working properly also.
Work is the curse of the drinking classes.

When they start discounting the Guinness I'll take a wander down there.

It's got to be the most expensive pub in Bangkok after the Huntsman.

spensive it is. even with discount card (irish xchange), it was only 10%. they never put spensive beer on promotion. at least, at the dubliner, all imported beer is at special price on tap Tuesday.

it's the exact same as far as i could tell...save for the poxy lighting and the 10% increase in prices. the tiger jug special on saturday/sunday has been hiked up to 180B ++ too (from 150B)

agreed, closing down for a month, one would expect more changes than this.

i find the bright green light at the bar hideous, and i told them so.

    still like their service though.

i just think the green, white and orange lighting in there is incredibly cheesy. i'd much rather go to the dubliner now for a few scoops

i only know of one decent irish bar here actually run by an irish man.

seems to be trend worldwide to throw up a barn, deck it out in lights and guinness posters and call it irish

I must admit I boycotted the Irish Xchange as it is was supposedly owned by the Irish group responsible for the Boiler Room scam.

I know the guys from the Phuket Molly Malones as they sponsored our Rugby tournament twoo years ago, so I can now go there. However having walked pst it the other night, I was completely put off by the lighting so I took my custom elsewhere anyway.

Anyway, I can never understand the logic of sitting in a bar because it is supposedly Irish. I'm not Irish and the only real attraction of the place is Guinness. I don't drink Guinness here because

    a) the climate does not make it so pleasant
    b) the Guinness here is shit.

    As for Irish cuisine....heaven forbid.

Another Plastic Paddy joint well avoided.
