The old Subzero burger evaluation team got back together and met at Patty's Bar and Diner on Rama 9 last Friday. I can't say enough about the place. The vibe was great, the food incredible and they had beer Lao dark which I think makes the perfect accompaniment to a burger.
The bar is in a townhouse, so it's not the biggest place in town but strives to be a great American style bar, and I have to say is pretty damn successful doing that. They have live music and the night we went, the place was packed.
The wife and I were very late getting there and I was a bit pissed off, so the pictures aren't as complete as what I'd like.
The burgers:
All of the burger platters, as I recall, were less than 200B. They weren't big burgers, I'm guessing in the 150 gram range and all handmade and well seasoned and cooked to medium. We weren't asked how we'd like the burgers cooked.
The BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger:
The eval team member that had this one said he really enjoyed the BBQ sauce as well as the burger and that the sauce didn't overwhelm the taste of the meat but added a nice enhancement to the experience. I noted that the bacon was nice and crisp which can be hard to get at times here in the Kingdom.
I had the Patty Melt (a burger served on rye bread) which is one of my favorites.
There was a bit too much bread for the burger, but tasted excellent.
Everyone agreed to three things:
1. The burgers themselves were amongst the best we had, and that's sayin' something.
2. As the burgers were incredibly juicy, the buns just couldn't stand up. My patty melt ended up with a rather soft gooey slice of rye at the bottom with a nice toasted piece on the top.
3. Service was a tad slow, but really, what should one expect when the place is packed.
I'm definitely going back and can't wait to do it. It's a place to drink beer and eat. Next time will be the Chicago style dog with their hot wings.
8.9/10 - soaked buns brought the burger rating down from a 9.3 or 9.4.
