Agree with Loy toy, some of the best Indian food ive had was in Malaysia, maybe slightly
Adapted for the Bumis, but good clean food and healthy portions seemed to be the way,
Got a couple of real ring burners though, had to put 2 rolls of toilet paper in the fridge in anticipation of the mornings pebble dash, won't post up any pics of that though, that's wat got Geoff banned I reckon
Himali Cha Cha on soi convent.
The place who'se name escapes me at the front of Sathorn Soi 1, great food, huge portions, not cheap.
What with this and your absurd 'Gullivers = The Oriental' nonsense elsewhere it's clear you don't believe in the maxim 'Quality comes at a price.'
Better restaurants = better quality ingredients, a lengthier more complex cooking process, more expertise in the kitchen, a more comfortable dining experience, better service = Higher Prices.
Whether in Belgravia or Bangkok, it's quite simple really.
As for Himali Cha Cha, I was wondering who would be first to recommend that dive.
Good afternoon, Cyrille. How are we today, dear. Those cramps seem to be getting to you. My wife drinks lots of lime juice when she hits her cycle. Perhaps you could give that a whirl.
Apropos my analogy of eating establishments elsewhere in the forum, the context was somewhat different to the one you evidently have misconstrued. Ah well, you don't seem to be the brightest but I suppose you can only try, eh?
Despite your nonsense, my earlier post herein about the Maya remains quite salient. Indeed, as I have already indicated, one is only too happy to pay for quality but the distinction between ersatz and the genuine article has to be made. Assuming the latter here in Bangkok simply because of the trappings and the PR is foolish in the extreme but I suppose it is inevitable when one is so easily seduced by appearances, as you evidently seem to be.
Ah well, never mind petal. Here's a little emoticon for you, I know how you like them.
I've tried the Himali Cha Cha but my experience is of their branch in Soi 31(?) which was very much a curate's egg. I love the restaurant itself which has quite a characterful, rustic touch and has a very peaceful ambience. Quite a few Thai seem to frequent the place. The service is fine but the maître d is definitely an odd bod, displaying all the mien of an undertaker.
Good value though even if that is a demerit for the pretentious of the board more inclined to the gaudy vacuity of other establishments exemplified by expense alone.
I went to Himali Cha Cha on 31 last week as it's near my condo and it looked like a nice location down that tiny sub-soi. Pretty wank. Off the list.
A few mentioned Indian Hut and I'd forgotten about that as it was four years ago. Pretty expensive but that's to be expected in that location near the Shangri La but it was very good for Bangkok. WOuld have been back were it not for the fact that it's out that way and in the past when I've been near Saphan Thaksin/Surasak I've always headed to the Red P Inn which, tragically, has recently closed. I miss that place. Well, specifically I miss the scouse and the chicken stroganoff. I never strayed beyond those dishes as they were so good.
Good - yes. Cheap - no. Still one of my favourites.

A couple of Pattaya Indians have been mentioned, mostly unattractive.
In the past more than a decade I still haven't found one to visit confident of Brit standards. And must confess I've more or less given up, especially with venues that proudly announce their 'new' or 'traditional' Indian menu. Last couple of several was crap that the Sportsman and Shenanigans dared to charge for.
Anyone...?

Actually it was advertised as chicken curry, so it came with rice and dried out bits of chicken breast. I kept mistaking the chips for chicken as most of the plate consisted of chips.
I was hungry enough to eat almost all of it. Washed down with a pint of Guinness it hit the spot.
I preferred the full Scottish breakfast for most future meals with my own hot sauce to zip it up some.
Can't remember the name but Ramkhamhaeng Soi 24/1, right down at the bottom of the soi where it joins Ramkhamhaeng soi 24 and is almost opposite ABAC gates there is an Indian called Al-(something - can't remember).Food is excellent and cheap .
^ Al Duwaa. Agreed, probably my favourite place in the city though it doesn't necessarily have the best food. It's cheap (particularly cheap when it's BYO beer from the 7/11), it has an interesting menu, and the main guy there is friendly and gives great advice on the food such as, 'No, don't have that today. It's not good. Have this instead.' Sonny I think his name is. So good cheap food in a friendly place sat outside watching people mill in and out of the illegal casino over the road. Then you can head to the black and white pubs around the corner on soi ABAC.
