How Often Do You Eat Street Food?

I have read that many people here miss the experience of eating street food when they are not in LOS.

Personally, I can't think why anyone wants to sit in stuffy 35DegC temperatures inhaling traffic fumes, especially when proper restaurants are dirt cheap here.

Occasionally I'll buy some noodles or somtam tai from a vendor to eat at home, but the only time I'll eat on the street is when I'm bladdered.

    And you?

We get 20 baht meals from street vendors and informal restaurants daily. (We have no kitchen.) But, we almost always bring the food home to eat.

Yeah, proper restaurants are cheap, but they are few and far between here in the hinterlands while street food is only a few steps away.

When I travel, I usually eat 'street food' during the day, and settle in a res in the evening.

I also frequently buy som-tam and other stuff to eat at home.

Mammers, your title is a weee bit misleading. I eat "street food", push cart vendors and bamboo stalls, about every day. I don't always eat where they are located.

When in Bangers I only eat from vendors that I've used before and found the food to be well cooked and reasonably clean.

I've never found half a cockroach in my street food, unlike that shithole Pub beneath the Skytrain station at Patpong.

Thinking of O'Reilly's are you? I had the same experience. Ordered a burger and salad. Poked at the salad and out popped a roach. I captured it under an ash tray to show the waitress. My replacement meal took nearly half an hour by which time Ms. B had already consumed hers. Never again.

Yep, that was the place. The "excuse" was "..Oh, they get in the dumb waiter shaft and we can't get them out."...

My response was... "did you ever consider carrying the food down the stairs so that wouldn't happen?"... Got a totally dumbfounded look, like WOW man, that's work...... was offered a 'free' coke as solice...

Never again... Should have eaten the dried up chicken BBq just ouside the door.

Not really. I asked how often do you eat on the street, as I wanted to know who likes to suffer heat & traffic fumes when eating.

    You asked two questions:

1 - How often do you eat on the street? (The poll question.)
2 - How Often Do You Eat Street Food? (The title of your thread.)

They're very different. I eat street food almost daily. I eat on the street almost never.

Not a lot of "traffic fumes" round 'ere in the mooban, but I'd rather take the food home anyway.

Never eat from a street cart or vendor, did some years ago, but flys mixed in my grub just gets me off my feed.
I like the part of the answers Try to eat "Reasonably clean", clean would be that you would have to fly somewhere else or go home,, We eat at home, sometimes eat in a 5 star in town where we see them prepare our food, or if going on the road there is nothing wrong with a stack of ham or roast turkey sammiches..

i live on soi nernplubwan and while i don't actualy sit and eat on the street, my wife will buy street food everyday at the market on street stalls to be consumed at home.
Best pad thai in town about 20 meters into nernplabwan on the left as you enter from suk road, only 25 baht, but stand doesn't open till about 5 or 6 in the evening.

I suppose it depends on whether one is being pedantic or precise....

Talk about being pedantic: it's quite a jump from option 3 to 4.
Many, including myself, would fit somewhere in between.

If in a city I will buy street food to eat at home. I have no concerns regarding the hygiene aspect. If anything I prefer to see my food being prepared - I laugh at folks who eat in restaurants because they assume that the food preparation is more hygienic - laugh at them I do, and sometimes I also point.

Occasionally I will also eat on the street, depends on the location really.

Well, I wouldn't be so surprised by the discrepancy and unclarity in the wording nor the lack of sensible poll options if it had been posted by some 3rd world geek who hasn't learned a thing from the superior intellect of the British colonials who imbibed such onto the natives in an attempt to spread common sense and civilisation.

I would probably give those shellfish omelettes a miss on the street - they could be asking for trouble - and they seem to take ages to make. In Chiangmai there were a few great fresh fruit stalls, e.g. outside 7-11 opposite Central. Excellent choice and very clean and fresh. Guava dipped in some type of piquant sauce was one of my favourites.

I'll eat on the street and/or eat street food in the evening in Bangkok (and I did in CM as well) if it's a side street with little to no traffic.
