Pattaya lager - brewed in Laos

Went to Best supermarket last night (for the first time - cool place to buy some odd stuff - bit light on the veggie variety, though), and spotted Pattaya Lager. I remember it was launched last year to great fanfare, but haven't seen it mentioned since. A google doesn't turn up any other info except about the launch, featuring none other than his "lord mayor". (Funny, but I remember something like a Pattaya beer 10-12 years ago, which I bought up in Bangkok. Or was it Phuket lager? Anyone else?)

Anyway, grabbed a couple of bottles and am trying it out now. Bugger, threw out the bill, but I think it was about 32 baht a bottle. So, the taste is a bit sharp, not sure what it is - but I'm kinda liking it. Maybe the hops? My reco can't be trusted, however, as my taste buds are RS, but it certainly doesn't offend me. Like most other beers, it's 5%. Not much of a buzz like other 5% beers after 2 bottles, so I wonder.

Interesting to read the label - distributed by Pattaya Beverage Marketing Co Ltd. Brewed by Xasy Group Co Ltd - Beer Sawan Co Ltd, Road 9 Km 13, Dongnakham Village, Kaysone Phomvihane District, Sannakhet Province, Lao PDR. That's correct on the label.

Just now switched to San Mig Lite - the Pattaya Lager is lingering in the taste buds, though. I'll man up and wash it away. This could take awhile. That's a positive point, in a quirky sense. Though does anyone need an excuse to drink more?

    No?

Thanks, Betty - you're right about the Phuket lager - it's coming back to me now.

Not sure what you mean by "shifter", though. I don't normally get up to north Pattaya for my shopping, so was only making a generalised comment based on a first visit. But I like what's on offer at Best. Lots of interesting things to think about in terms of imported stuff, if you're into that. Definitely going back again.

Beer sawan is a local brewery in savannakhet that is trying ( and failing) to take a bit of market share from beerlao, Beerlaos pretty hard to beat, never heard of the pattaya lager though , Didnt think the thais allowed many beer imports from Laos due to them righfully fearing that punters would switch to beerlao.

I image its easier to get a license to brew in Lao than Thailand, that's what the big boys are frightened of, its the ease of brewing.
It would end up like normal countries where everyone with the knowledge could set up a boutique brewery, making descent beer, It would be open season on the big boys.
There canít be good living where there is not good drinking

Apologies. Garbos came this morning and I threw the bottles out. Plus I'm on the iPad and there doesn't seem to be a way to attach pix. Or is that a newbie problem?
(seen some pix in google images)

Yeah, that's the stuff. Only seen it in Best, but maybe someone else has seen it elsewhere.
