How Hot Do You Like It?

I love hot food. There was a time when I could eat half of a raw Habanero. I've toned down quite a bit but I still like hot (spicy) food.

I can eat Thai food that is about 3/4 as hot, as the hottest Thai food that a Thai will eat. Anything hotter than that takes away from the enjoyment of the food.

I generally eat Thai food that is hotter than my wife likes.

So, how many of you TDers really like and eat HOT Thai food?

    Depends on the dish.

But I'll often find myself deeply bonded to the bog committing humanitarian atrocities the day after a Thai salad...

I prefer to taste other ingredients apart from just searing hot chilli peppers. I do not mind a little spice but not too much.

I hate anything that's too hot. I remember having 'chilli appreciation' classes on the build up to my first trip. I nearly starved until I learned to ask for fried rice with pork.

Eat Thai food 3-4 times a week but not really a big fan of it. Do enjoy when guests stop by for dinner who say they love Thai food as it always gives me a laugh to see their face turn red and sweat start rolling when they sample real Thai food.

I have never had anything as hot as the Indian chicken Phal I once had. Boy was that hot both going in and even more so coming out.
I love spicy Thai food but sometimes they just make it hot for the sake of it being hot which tends to take away the flavours. I can't beat the wife for hot food though. I once brought back some " asskicking red hot " tabasco sauce which was to hot for me and she loved it

Why take a dump in your fridge BL? Most people use the toilet.

I always secretly suspected that Thais made their food so hot, that only the hungriest members of the family would eat it (shortage of food). Sort of a survival of the fittest.

The part about it coming out as hot as it when in is too often true.

My wife never likes to eat hot food if we are flying internationally the next day. I don't worry about it too much, but I generally proactively take a couple of "anti-diarrhea pills when I go on flights lasting over 6 hours.

The one thing I've learned, if the food doesn't seem to "agree with you" after the first couple of bites, don't eat it! Go with something safer (or to a different restaurant).

It's not so much the heat, as I was born and bred into hot/spicy, but how the particular hot referenced item interacts with the food that you are taking....

I have also observed, over the years, that I prefer the "taste" of chillis, peppercorns, etc from Asian regions over the chillis from the Western Hemisphere [Latin America].....it has much to do with flavour for me.

The Thai addiction to chillis is I think a reflection on how utterly tedious their diet truly is.

Bloody rice every day, no variety and the same spices and herbs in practically every dish irrespective of whether it is fish, fowl, moo or nua.

Frankly, their food scarcely qualifies as a cuisine and their use of chillis is just a compensation in delivering a "hit".

Mexican cuisine has a wonderful range of chillis full of contrasting flavours and heat - their smoked chipotles et al can be sublime. And what do the Thai have? Fucking birds eye and a finger chilli......

Love hot food, particularly Thai, but I can actually differentiate between types of chili now. Like Scotch Bonnets and Habeneros are smokier and more for Mexican/Jamaican food (naturally). Thai chilis are quite bitter. Only one time I was caught out on a pad krapao (pet pet). My Thai BF ordered it and they knew it was for me. All heat, no flavour at all. Don't see how their prank was really justified, as we never used that place again for takeout. Think they lost out.

I like spicey food, no caveat, no "But not so hot that..." I love spicey food. My Ol' lady (Thai) complains, My kids complain (farang) so I usually have to add the heat after an that just doesn't have the same flavor on most dishes. Since my operation Habaneros will give a mild case of the shits. Ghost peppers do not. But this is getting better. I just keep suffering through it and now find That I can increase the level of Hab heat in my food without gastric repercussion. Probably still not safe for a trans-pac flight though. Just in case, like.

I like my Thai food to be tangy so that I can still taste the ingredients.
If it melts the wax in my ears then it's too spicy.

    Different strokes and all that.

I find Mexican food to be fairly tedious. It's all lard, cumin, and cheese smothered with red or green chili. Chipotle has an off taste that I really don't like.

I, myself prefer the flavor of Thai chili over habaneros, jalapeñoes, and serranos. I really don't like the taste of Tobasco peppers (or the sauce).

Rice is a staple, and much like potatoes or bread (for the Italians and French anyway), has an addictive quality that makes you want to eat it with just about everything. People who eat a lot of rice, can distinguish between the different types and crops of rice, just as a connoisseur of wine can distinguish between different vintages.

I hadn't given much thought to how my eating habits have changed until I recently ordered a plate of mussels. They came steeped in chilli and all manner of spices. Madam ate one and spent the remainder of the week suffering as a result. I scoffed the rest without so much as a burp. Arroi maak.
I see fish. They are everywhere. They don't know they are fish.

Eat spicier than any Thai I've met.

When finished, simply eat a couple of yogurts and you will not be on the toilet next morning. In fact, you will not be having any bathroom issues.
