The first house I rented here had one of those massive Star satellite dishes. Black mesh job about 6' across.
Brought me to my knees trying to shift it.

Many years ago two days before i was due to fly back to UK we went to a Mk Restaurant.Well severe vomiting and diarrhea followed after eating their lovely cuisine i was being sick in the sink whilst stuck on the toilet with liquid being expelled out my arse at extreme high pressure.
I cancelled my flight until all was well a few days later.

I spend 3-4 months per year in Thailand. I've never got sick eating Thai food. However; my Thai GF got very sick several times, eating "Dancing Khrong" on the beach. Small live shrimp mixed with Chillies & Green Papaya. I tell her not to eat this stuff, because the Shrimp are raised on farms where the local water is contaminated by septic runoff. "No, never!", she emphatically stated, "We never get sick from this". 2 hours later she was moaning in the wc going from both ends. This happend 2X in 3 years. Needless to say, it was only 35 C on the beach & the Shrimp Lady had been carrying the live shrimp around for a few hours. I eat "Seafood Salad" @ many beaches and never get sick. I have got violently ill from eating food on Airplanes. I only eat breakfasts on Airplanes now.

Yeah, "goong dten" can be nasty.

Me ex-wife hails from Esan. Now living in farangland.
Every time we went visit the inlaws, she would happily dig into the local "cuisine".
Being away for prolonged periods of time, she apparently had lost her resistance towards the bacterias and would regularly have to occupy the shit house.

Me and the kids never had this problem, as we would not eat that plaa raa poo dorng shit and instead went out to eat.

well, you have been eating in some not very sophisticated restaurants

Thai food can be exquisite, on a par with the best in the world

Have you ever had the Royal Thai cuisine? there are at least two restaurants in Bangkok serving that type of food

Singapore food has good street food, very delicious and varied, but not sophisticated
    I have reported your post

    ^ recovered from being owned?

Shame I was enjoying your hiding away.

Still, as usual you are back full of bluster and ignorance. I have eaten Royal Thai cuisine in several top restraunts in BK.

Why you would compare Royal Thai with Singapore street food is a bit of a mystery though.

Thai cuisine is generally "one note" cooking. They got the idea of hot, sweet, sour and basically stopped there.

    As I said, generally unsophisticated.

Once upon a time there were bill boards all over the Esan region, saying like this:
Esan people don`t eat raw fish.

I guess, that was to no avail.

So we have to seek out two restaurants in Bangkok to find edible Thai food? Thanks, but I pass. 'Blah, simple, unsophisticated, and uninteresting' apply to all others? I have to agree.

The Southern style curries (Penang style, or Massaman) I love to bits.

Usually though, the first meal I have after being away from Thailand for a while is usually the phad krapaow moo w/ a fried egg on top, and chile-fish sauce on the side.

    Great hangover cure as well.

Contrary to popular believe in Thailand - Farang can eat spicy food.

I'm always getting asked "can eat?" "is ok is spicy?" hahah bring it on.

I'm the Vindaloo king in the UK. I'd love to see a Thai tuck into a vindaloo

Used to love Hoi Tod, then got bored of it. Gai Yang, sticky rice and clear noodle salad with seafood - I'm salivating at the thought of it. Best I had was at that large Isarn restaurant between Thong Lor/Ekkamai

The Worst and only ever time in Thailand I've ever eaten something bad:

Outback steakhouse, Siam Discovery Centre back in 2003. Dodgy pork steak.

The pain was unbelievable for about 4 days.

Some can but lots of farangs don't like it. i prefer medium spicey so I can still taste the herbs and garlic. If it's super hot then all you can taste is chilli which is a waste of the other ingredients.

i like lots of pepper, basil (or other herbs) and garlic on my food with chilli playing a minor role

    Indeed.
Last year in Krabi, I approached a food stall specializing in barbecued chicken and papaya salat.
While I was waiting to place my order, the owner offered me a Prik Kee Noo with a devious smile on his lips.
I took it, ate it and didn`t bat an eyelid. Much to his disappointment.

"Mee mia pen khon thai maen bor"?
    "Maen laew"

You have a thai wife? Yup.

He whipped up a particularly mean Som Tham for me, based on the fact that I was used to spicy food.

Holy crap, that nearly brought me to my knees, but at least he wasn`t around to witness that.
Only my kids were: Why are you crying dad?
Those are tears of joy, son.

Somehow "sticky rice with mango and coconut sauce" always brings me down. It's tasty, but somehow my body can't handle it.. and I always end up in toilet. If coconut sauce will be removed - ending will be good, but taste is not that good.

Back here in England I tend to spice up my food a lot more than I did when in Thailand.

A simple dip can be made mixing fish sauce, lemon juice and chillis. I'm a sucker for that.

People can smell the garlic on me. Lovely.

I agree with him, Thai food is the ultimate junk food. I don't even care that it's extremely unhealthy, fatty, sugary, rich in carbs, poor in proteins, and loaded with salmonella and e-coli. The sluttishness with which it is prepared is disgusting. When I think 'with chicken', I want perfectly dissected chicken breasts in my meal. Legs or wings are good for barbecue only, if at all. I don't think chicken backs, feet, heads. I don't think splintered bones, tendons, flabby skin, feathers, intestines. That's what I find in Thai dishes, though.

^My pet hate is finding chicken neck pieces in curries, and hurriedly cooked foods that are still only half cooked. I'm patient and willing to wait!

Made this laced with lashings of Encona Hot Pepper sauce.
